Picked it as it was a Guy Fieri stop. Food was incredible...the pork and chicken were perfect!!! Also great service but note it is not very big and fills up fast...because it is so good!
This was a nice find for a busy night in Boise. Small bar serving Basque food that sits beside a more formal Basque restaurant next door. Small menu and beer list but everything is carefully chosen. The food was tasty and unique. Good selection of...local beers and traditional ciders from Basque Country. Small bar seating area plus a side area that is family friendly. Friendly staff and really good prices for good portions. I’d go back for sureMore
This is my go to every time I come to Boise. The lamb, the soups, the flan, the anything you order is best in flavors. Even the french fries are the best fresh cut fries I have ever had anywhere. Then the service tops off...your visit with their knowledge, their attention to detail and fun. Prices are so reasonable for this fresh food. You cant miss here. I cant wait to come back.More
I was so excited to try this restaurant after reading the reviews. I grew up with my Basque grandmother living with us and absolutely love Basque food. So when I read the reviews, I told my friends we had to go there. The croquetas were...raved about, but I found them to be very sosa....bland. The consistency was very good and they were fried perfectly, but they lacked taste. I added a bit of salt which made them better, but they were a disappointment. We also ordered the lamb stew, which I found too thin and also lacking in flavor. The Chorizo sandwich with onions and peppers was okay, but lacked flavor also. Now, the desserts were a different story. Both the flan and the arroz con leche (rice pudding) were fabulous. They get an A+ for both of them. Would I go back? Probably not. But next time in Boise, I will try another Basque restaurant.More
When in Boise, I had to return to Bar Gernika -- three times. Yes, it's that wonderful! A special SHOUT OUT to server Chadwick who kindly and efficiently recommended the soup of the day and a specialty beer. I was fortunate to visit before the...crowds (yes, standing around the block crowds!) and sat at an outdoor table, people watching, slowly sipping my soup and beer and when I returned for the third time I brought friends to enjoy this special experience. We shared the food (all excellent!) and once again, the soups are life-alteringly good and as friend Connie said with a laugh, "Fun, huh?" Bar Gernika. Good for you food, good for your soul atmosphere. If you don't know what to order, ask your server for a recommendation -- they are happy to help. No visit is complete without a visit to the Basque Museum, same block and spend some time in the Basque Market at the other end of the block. Bar Gernika - a highlight of my trip to Beautiful Boise. Thank you!More
Had a great meal here. Menu has many interesting items. Couldn't order all of them. Will need to return....
The lamb stew lived up to the hype. Perfectly seasoned and huge slices of peppers. Fries were awesome. Great value for $11, I got a huge bowl for stew, fries and bread for dipping. Definitely will be a regular spot for me.
Bar Gernika is a Boise Basque block institution. Everything I have eaten there has been great - delicious soups always, and you must get an order of the croquettas! They always have interesting beers on draft, as well as a good wine selection. A very...unique intimate setting, fun hard-working staff, and delicious food and drink. Win-win-win.More
Bar Gernika is located in Boise's Basque Block. near the Basque Museum. The food is authentic Basque. The lamb grinder is my favorite sandwich. Serving size is ample! All four members of our party were super happy with the service, the food, and the atmosphere!...The Basque Museum and the Boarding House next door to the museum are well worth the tour.More
My wife and I stopped for a late lunch. I read the reviews on TA and knew I was going to Basque tavern. They had a nice selection of beer on draft. The menu is simple. I had the Lamb Grinder Sandwich and my wife...had the lamb kabobs. I had soup with mine and she had a salad. The food was great and quite reasonably priced. I rate this a 5 because it exceeded my expectations.More
I entered here to have a drink and a snack and read (I am solo traveler). The place must be great since there were a lot of people in the establishment yet it was not conducive to a solo traveler having a drink and reading...a book while relaxing from a walk around town.More
Bar Gernika is located downtown in the Basque Block and is a great place for drinks and some of the best Basque food in Boise. They have a nice selection of local and regionally brewed beers that you can pair with one of their excellent...Basque sandwiches. I would say that anything with lamb here is good, but the lamb grinder was top of the list. The chorizo is locally made and equally good. If you are lucky enough to visit on a day they are serving seafood bisque, make sure you try this delicious soup, served with French bread, it’s a meal in itself.More
We met friends - always the best part of any meal - for our first venture into Basque food. Friendly service helped us make tasty choices of lamb grinders and chorizo supreme sandwiches served on fresh-baked rolls. Don't miss the croquettas! Also an impressive beverage...list, including Rezabal Txakoli (Basque wine) and local brews.More
Good food with great ambiance. It feels like you are in a European pub with just the right amount of scruffiness with no rushing you out the door Had the lamb grinder and croqutas. Tasty!arusservice
