When traveling, my wife and I always inquire about where the locals eat breakfast. In Charleston, that's What's Cookin'. The waitstaff and kitchen folk make great breakfasts and lunches. Lots of variety and always delicious. Very friendly atmosphere and if you're lucky you'll get to sing happy birthday to someone! And oh, they make great muffins and their special strawberry... More

The food is always delicious and the service is great. A satisfying experience all around. It's clean, friendly, and they have great menu choices. The baked goods are out of this world!

While on a recent road trip, we stopped here for a spur of the moment lunch, and we're glad we did. The food was fantastic, and the prices were reasonable. The chicken salad was delicious, and so was the vegetable beef soup. This restaurant is noted for homemade strawberry bread (similar to banana bread but made with strawberries). We bought... More

My son and I really enjoyed our first experience here. My Mediterranean platter (Greek salad & hummus with pita chips) was delicious. My son had a turkey sandwich and fries. His only complaint was that the meat was smoked rather than roasted;perhaps having a choice between the two or simply the roasted as a healthier choice is a suggestion. Fast... More

I love the biscuits and gravy here. Hands down - my favorite. The atmosphere is clean and the staff is mostly friendly. The place is full of "regulars" who have their favorites. Some of the menu items taste a little "canned" - (think gravy), but decent otherwise. Oh, and I recommend the strawberry bread. Never had anything like it.

I am a resident of the town in which this restaurant is located. It is locally owned and an excellent place to meet friends for breakfast or lunch. They open early for those of us who like to exercise early in the day and then go on to What's Cooking for coffee or a light breakfast.

Have frequented this place for years and years. The food is diner type but typically prepared very well; meals are cooked to order. The service is excellent the wait always keeps your coffe cup filled. Most of the staff has been there for a long time. I return fairly often.

My husband and I have been going to What's Cookin' since we moved to Charleston twenty years ago. Food and service alike are consistently good--very good. Though professional, there is a "down home" feel to the service which is always friendly. The food is delicious, especially breakfast; I especially like the muffins. Another breakfast favorite is the Huevos Rancheros. Other... More

This restaurant has been in business for many years. The decor is very dated but the food was yummy. If you go you must have a piece of their strawberry bread. Take a loaf with you if possible!
