That's a cool place well designed with different levels but almost out of light. Why??? Good but not fantastic food and good staff

Being in Chicago for Christmas was a lot of fun. On Christmas Day there are not many restaurants open. So well in advance I had looked up some options and made reservations for 4:00 PM at Mercat a la Planxa. It was an excellent choice. When my wife and I arrived the place was relatively empty. The host checked our... More
"Matteo" took very good care of me and steered me in the right direction on the menu. This is the second time I have been here and will keep coming back. The quality of the food is outstanding, along with the service. Ole'!
Our group of six ordered every tapas available and just spent our evening tasting a wide variety of excellently prepared dishes. We did the same with dessert, tried every one. The dinner was amazing, and the desserts were even better.
We ordered the luxury tasting menu with the wine pairing. There was just too much food. All items were good. If you decide to go there, make sure that you do not for the whole day. Perhaps the regular tasting menu would have been enough. However, the people sitting next to us had that and they also had trouble in... More
Mercat is located in the lobby of the Blackstone . The Spanish style breakfast was great . The Blackstone Benidict will leave you wanting to come back every weekend for brunch . Just like any other Benedict but they add a truffle sauce that is great . We didn't get a chance to try dinner but it looks like they... More
Chicago has many fine restaurants and this is amongst them. If you like Spanish tapas and similar food this is a great spot. A wide choice to pick from. Staff very good & knowledgeable of the choices. Has good wine pairings. Not too expensive and good atmosphere.
The downstairs has a bar and some tables for some casual seating while the upstairs has the bar and a dining area. It is located right off of Michigan Ave. The dishes are served tapas-style. They are delicious. The Short ribs are spectacular.
Popped into the bar with my wife and son after the Ireland rugby game last weekend. The bartender was rude beyond belief, asking for the money before I even completed my order and doing so with total lack of charm and borderline hostility. One of his co-workers did try to apologize for him. We will never go back.
malibuirishmike - I'm very sorry to hear about your experience at the bar. The interaction you described is far from the expectations we set for our staff, and is atypical of the level of hospitality our guests are usually given. I can assure you that this will be addressed with the staff, feedback like yours gives us an opportunity to... More
