Tried sandwiches and pasta here and found them to be nothing out of the ordinary. Service was okay. The cost of food items served here is reasonable.

I have been eating in this cafeteria for years, it is in the basement of my office building. It is convenient, with a lot of sitting room. There are different offerings every day of the week, pasta only on Tuesdays and Thursdays. You get a lot of food for a decent price. The tastes are OK too.

Food court style cafeteria. Food quality is acceptable at reasonable prices for downtown. Atmosphere is dark and depressing, like the rehabbed basement it is.

The best thing about this place is that you can walk around a little and choose from Asian, Mexican, Italian, pizza, salad buffet, sandwiches both ready-made and to order, etc. It is a bit like an old-style cafeteria, as you walk around with your tray. The price was reasonable. It doesn't have much ambiance, to say the least, but is... More

I never would have known about the Under 55 Cafe, except that a local recommended it. I stopped in my last morning in Chicago for breakfast and had one of the best egg sandwiches I've ever had. And it was cheap! Great service as well. The guys behind the grill were engaging with everyone.

The decor is relatively nice and there is a selection of five places to eat--providing choices from sandwiches, salads to pasta. The service was very slow, both at the cafe I choose and at the checkout. I didn't see any staff clearing and cleaning tables; so, I imagine it can get dirty when there is a crush of people. Talking... More

There are many choices at this place located under 55 E Monroe St Bldg. When they first opened it was a great place to eat especially for those who worked in the building. The cost was reasonable and the food was tasty. However, my colleagues told me a couple weeks ago not to eat there. I tried the place this... More

Under 55 Cafe is across the street from the Palmer House Hilton. We were looking for a place to have breakfast and were told that all the employees from Palmer House eat breakfast at Under 55. We ate there two mornings during our stay, and it's worth going just to watch the guy at the egg station. He was highly... More
