Stumbled across Bistrot Zinc on a typical freezing cold Chicago night last week. I am talking 2 degrees. Seeing the warm light from the bistro, I went in and got exactly what I was hoping for... hot soup - Onion Gratinee' the classic onion soup. Delightfully and deliciously done. The bar where I sat had big baskets of thin waffle... More

This place never disappoints. Great food, service and ambience. It is a favorite of mine. Crepes, French onion soup, quiche, mussels.

Nice casual place where you can get a great dinner. Nothing fancy about the menu but the kitchen is consistently good.

We have eaten here at least 8 times and always find it to be one of favorites. The service is stellar, the food is so good and the ambiance is lovely. It's not fancy but they consider every detail and it is reflected is the high quality. The menu is not huge but there is something for every palate. Absolutely... More

We ate here on weeknight. All 4 of us enjoyed our entrée. The rack of lamb was especially delicious. Reasonable $25 corkage fee if you BYOB. The Pot de Crème desert was also outstanding. Waitstaff was attentive without rushing us. Not too loud. Bartender was also friendly. We'll be back.

Visited this place for dessert, and was very impressed! Wished we had more time for another meal! Very friendly staff and no wait time. Can't wait to eat here again.

I haven't eaten at a French Restaurant in a 100 years, I didn't realize that this was. After a long flight to Chicago our friends took us there for lunch. It was interesting décor but I didn't get the French thing. I don't remember French food tasting the same, maybe because it has been a 100 years. We had the... More

I wanted very much to be impressed by Bistrot Zinc but left feeling it was basically okay but not the authentic French restaurant of my dreams. Really can't point to anything that was terrible, just felt that things were aspiring to being French without the essence of it. Perhaps I was there on a bad night, but just felt that... More

The menu is filled with well prepared French standards. Additionally influences from other cuisines appear and are well handled. We recently ate there and had salad lyonnaise, voul a vent, steak frites and profiteroles. In the past have had vegetable stuffed crepes and tangine with vegetables. Good Bar Conversationally friendly At night adult appropriate; brunch with kids

We shared a pasta and a salad, and Brian, the bartender was great, and turned us on to a few great wines! Food was delicious.

Staying in Gold Coast

Neighbourhood Profile
Gold Coast
Located just north of The Loop, Gold Coast is one of Chicago’s most affluent and popular neighborhoods. The original Playboy, Hugh Hefner, once had a mansion here. In addition to prestigious hotels, historic mansions and luxury high-rise apartments, you’ll also find upscale specialty boutiques and Michelin-starred restaurants. Walk along Oak Street for your shopping fix and dance through the night along Rush Street. The Newberry Library is also a great stop to check out noteworthy exhibits and rare book collections.
