I haven't eaten at a French Restaurant in a 100 years, I didn't realize that this was. After a long flight to Chicago our friends took us there for lunch. It was interesting décor but I didn't get the French thing. I don't remember French food tasting the same, maybe because it has been a 100 years. We had the... More

I wanted very much to be impressed by Bistrot Zinc but left feeling it was basically okay but not the authentic French restaurant of my dreams. Really can't point to anything that was terrible, just felt that things were aspiring to being French without the essence of it. Perhaps I was there on a bad night, but just felt that... More

The menu is filled with well prepared French standards. Additionally influences from other cuisines appear and are well handled. We recently ate there and had salad lyonnaise, voul a vent, steak frites and profiteroles. In the past have had vegetable stuffed crepes and tangine with vegetables. Good Bar Conversationally friendly At night adult appropriate; brunch with kids

We shared a pasta and a salad, and Brian, the bartender was great, and turned us on to a few great wines! Food was delicious.

They don't even speak french. Food was ok but service was very bad. It is also quite expensive for what it is.

My wife had the mushroom crepe and said it was delicious. I had the Croque Monsieur and it was very good. The pomme frites were also delicious. The service was friendly and perfect as we were visiting with friends.

I am visiting in Chicago with friends who have dined at Bistro Zinc since the 90's. I have eaten there once a year ago. They have always enjoyed the food, ambiance, & staff. Today we were seated for lunch at a table on the north wall. We were surprised & dismayed by the rudeness of our waiter. It appeared as... More

Not our first time here but this is a consistently very good traditional French bistro. We ate early (around 4) which is typically shifty change. I don't recommend that because service was a bit slow but otherwise they have excellent food, traditionally prepared and with a great wine selection. Their steak frites is always great. If you want something different... More

On a long walk my wife and I were drawn into this warm and lively bistro with a colorful storefront, a tiled floor, and more quiet than many places these days. The basic house salad was perfect, the mussels were full of flavor, the daily soup was broccoli and it was so good, and the lamb sandwich on brioche was... More

We chose the traditional french dishes. They were sumptuous and excellent. The price didn't break the bank. Nor the price of wine. Service was excellent. Overall, a great experience. Would recommend without doubt.

Staying in Gold Coast

Neighbourhood Profile
Gold Coast
Located just north of The Loop, Gold Coast is one of Chicago’s most affluent and popular neighborhoods. The original Playboy, Hugh Hefner, once had a mansion here. In addition to prestigious hotels, historic mansions and luxury high-rise apartments, you’ll also find upscale specialty boutiques and Michelin-starred restaurants. Walk along Oak Street for your shopping fix and dance through the night along Rush Street. The Newberry Library is also a great stop to check out noteworthy exhibits and rare book collections.
