My husband's favorite Chicago deep dish - he swears by the buttery crust and the slab of sausage. This was my first time and I also thoroughly enjoyed my pizza, even if it isn't my favorite deep dish in town. ;) That being said, I...would happily eat here again! I needed my husband's help to open doors, but otherwise entry and navigating the restaurant was easy. Staff was courteous and trained in seating customers in wheelchairs.More

Everybody loves pizza. Like chocolate. For years, ever since I discovered pizza in the 1950s, I have sought the best pizza in town. Large, thin crust, cheese and sausage. With extra sausage. I found three pizza parlors that suited my fancy. But all of them...have closed. But, would you believe, I have tasted the best pizza I have ever experienced. No exaggeration. Lou Malnati's pizza at Lou Malnati's Gold Coast Pizzeria at 1120 North State Street. A locally owned chain that dates to the 1940s and boasts that it produces the best deep dish pizza in the country, it is operated by the founder's two sons. I have known Rick Malnati for nearly 30 years, since I covered high school basketball for the Chicago Sun-Times and Rick was a player and later coach at New Trier High School in north suburban Winnetka. In those days, I argued that other pizzas were superior to Malnati's. But I had never tasted Malnati's. Until now. It is unique, a taste unto its own, one of a kind. The delivery service is outstanding, 30 minutes from oven to my home. Just the right blend of cheese and tomato sauce. Light and chewy crust. Yes, I have sampled the deep dish pizza. But it's too tomatoey for me. I prefer the thin crust variety. And nobody does it better than Lou Malnati's.More

Lou’s never disappoints! Classic Chicago pizza and a thin crust to the side. More than 3 people could consume. Beware the salad-a salad will feed 3 people easily, it’s HUGE!!! Lou’s is on our must to list when in CHItown.

We enjoyed the pizza sauce and crust. The bruschetta was fantastic. The service was just bad!! Drinks were not refilled and we waited 25 minutes for a check/box. A lot of managers walking around doing very little customer service. We will not be back.

We flew from Memphis to Chicago on our way back to London in search of deep dish pizza. This place did not disappoint. Don’t be tempted to order any of the larger pies (they’re huge!) and go with what your server recommends for your number...of guests. So much flavour in the sauce and a proper crust. Yes it was packed as others have commented but that’s for good reason, as it does epic pizza. We waited no more than 30 minutes to be seated and once at our table experienced excellent service along with endless drink refills. Highly recommended.More

For a classic, no-frills pizza experience, I always turn to Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria. Their traditional pepperoni pizza is a timeless favorite, with a generous layer of gooey cheese and perfectly spicy pepperoni slices. Pair it with an ice-cold soda, and you've got the perfect meal...for any occasion.More

I was on a short business trip to Chicago and, although I wouldn’t call myself a huge fan of pizza, decided that when in Chicago and all that… I booked in advance, but at 5pm on a Sunday it was doing a brisk trade but...not overcrowded. The menu isn’t huge, and I knew I wanted to try a deep dish pizza, so I asked the waitress for her recommendation which was a Lou, to which I added sausage. She explained that it would take about 40 minutes so I ordered a salad while I was waiting. The garden salad with ranch dressing was huge and overly generous on the dressing but delicious and I had to stop myself filling myself up before my pizza arrived. I was not disappointed! The pizza was unbelievably delicious, definitely the best I’ve ever had. The crust was amazing and the filling fresh and plentiful. Unfortunately it’s probably spoilt me for any other pizza for ever more, so here’s hoping for a return trip to Chicago soon!More

It was as we journeyed from O'Hare to our hotel in the centre of Chicago, when we asked our Uber driver the most debated question in the city: "Where do you go to get the best Chicago pizza?" Her answer, I could've sworn, was "Illuminati's"....Conspiracy theories aside, she actually said Lou Malnati's. What she described made me think of an old, family-style pizzeria, full of large men named Joey and Tony, yelling things like "forget about it" and "just like mama used to make". I'll admit, I was very excited to be in the heart of it. I was wrong. I don't know if it was the hideous weather, but there was quite a grim atmosphere inside Lou Malnati's. I can't say whether it was the fact it was clearly too busy for its own good, or whether the horde of noisy kids was putting everyone on edge, but one word can sum up the overall feel: Tense. Having just come from Boston, where almost everyone seemed chatty and full of life, it was quite a change seeing our server TRYING to hold it together in the chaos. I don't blame her, to be honest, but it did spoil our experience when the general vibe was 'order, eat, get out'. The saving grace was that the Uber driver was right... It's some damn fine pizza. If I ever found myself in Chicago again, I'd return to Lou Malnati's in the hopes of a much calmer atmosphere.More

I am a little surprised on how highly regarded this place is. I thought it was average. The one thing I will say about Chicago pizza is that’s its sauce forward which I love. Their sauce was sweet and delicious. Their crust tasted like it...was a mild or prepackage product. Enjoyable pizza but based on reviews and recs I was expecting more. Friendly service.More

Walk up or make reservation. Parking in nearby paid lots. Upon arrival I found the place packed with patrons. The wait time to be seated was at least 45 to 60 minutes. I ordered take-out online and waited on-site. There were benches available inside. The...take-out order took 35 minutes. Drinks are available for on-premises consumption. Deep pan pizza with butter crust tasted good.More

Excellent Chicago style deep dish pizza. Every time I visit I like to try a new pizza place. Lou’s is a favorite! The original cheese had a crispy crust, excellent tomato and the perfect amount of cheese. I took it to go and it was...still great. $20 for a small which is roughly 4 slices.More
