Wow has this place gone downhill!! I understand we are in a pandemic and restaurants are struggling but owners of this restaurant listen up! I work in the restaurant industry and I’m super understanding. This experience was beyond horrible. We walked in on Wednesday July...14, 2021 at 8pm. There were 2 tables in the whole place. We had a male kid as our waiter. He came to the table with ear pods in his ears. We ordered an appetizer which was decent but had to ask him 3 times for extra tortillas which he never brought. I let it go. We then order dinner. The food comes, wrong, the girl who brought it does not speak English and we could not find our waiter. I finally get up and walk over to the bar side where a waitress is rolling silverware and I ask where our server is which she responds we don’t know. She tries to help and our waiter finally appears. He acts like he knows what’s wrong and goes to fix it. Guess what wrong again!!! At this point I don’t even care. We eat this meal that I would say was just horrible. Now AGAIN we have to search to find our waiter just to get the bill. Guess what, no one could find him again. My bill was wrong, he charged me for wrong meals and it was $90. At this point I was not going to look for him to fix it. I paid but will not return anytime soon. This was always a top place to go in Galena but this experience was terrible. Your better off with less employees than keeping kids with a pulse just to have a body. Oh and he never took his ear pods out which is most likely why he got everything wrong!More

If you were looking for a really flavorful and authentic Mexican place, keep driving. Not really what I had expected. I got pineapple fajitas, and the pineapple was great, but who knows what sort of steak they used. It was definitely passable, but not for...the 16 dollars it was priced for. My rice was undercooked and the guac didn't seem too fresh either. My boyfriend had fish tacos and was just a little confused about why they tasted the way they did. The highlight was the chips and salsa, because the chips were fresh and still warm. Clearly they are doing their best but just need to lower those through the roof prices if they are going to sell those recipes.More

Solid Mexican food in a small Midwestern town can be hard to come by. Having lived in Texas, we have high expectations if a place wants our return service. This place qualified. It was the little things that had us go back two nights in...a row. First, we didn't have to deal with finding parking in downtown Galena. It's just minutes away though and was close to our hotel. The salsa was a basic tomato base but accented with fresh cilantro and onion and served with crunchy corn chips. The drinks were of large sizes (the medium beer was probably 24-30 oz) and they have a large variety of flavors frozen or on the rocks. They had half price basic margaritas the one night which was a steal. We're not big drinkers but splurged since we could get 2 for 1. Their menu is quite extensive so plenty for folks to choose from. The shredded chicken in the taco was flavorful but not spicy. I wish there had been a couple more beef tips in my burrito but that was the only complaint I could find on the two nights we visited. The flour tortillas are so good I was surprised to find out they weren't homemade! Service was prompt with nice servers even on the busy night.More

We love coming here every time we go to Galena. Our favorite appetizer is the queso fundido. The servers are always friendly and on top of things. Our other favorites are enchiladas and good old steak tacos!

We dropped by for carry-out. I had to wait well over five minutes before getting service. Wait staff saw me and just stared... While waiting, I noticed how dumpy the place is. Two waiters in the back hall were goofing off (fighting, laughing and chasing...one another). A waitress came out and noticed my food had been sitting on the table (so, I was waiting there and whoever brought the food out didn't bother to ask if I was waiting for it). The giant burrito was good, but the enchilada tray was a mess. It was (supposedly) five enchiladas blobbed together with sour cream on top with one tomato slice and some shredded lettuce. Yep, I was NOT impressed.More

I was recently at Los Aztecas II in Galena, IL for lunch on a Friday. I had just come from the Platteville area, and I was headed towards Beloit, so I decided to dip into Illinois and go through Illinois to head back east. There...was a Mexican restaurant in Platteville that I had wanted to eat at the night before, but it was closed due to Covid still, so I decided to try here for lunch. I still had a hankering for Mexican! My waiter was friendly and on top of things. I opted to sit inside because it was kind of a humid day, though they had several outdoor tables available as well. I enjoyed the free chips and salsa that were brought out with my soda. I always enjoy chips and salsa with my Mexican, and it was a nice surprise to get them for free! I chose to have the taco salad with ground beef for my lunch entree, and it was enjoyable. It was kind of on the small side, but I was expecting that with it being only $6.99. I still thought it was enough for me, and it was a good value. The taco salad was good, but I thought it was lacking on some of the traditional toppings--no black olives, no onion. The tomato slice placed on top was sort of greenish looking, which was kind of unappealing to me. Overall, though, I enjoyed the taco salad. I thought the restaurant seemed sort of unclean--i.e. sticky table, lots of junk piled up in the next room, and men's bathroom was kind of disgusting. I would probably return if in the area, but I hope it is a bit cleaner next time. This seemed like authentic Mexican food!More

We didn't eat there but we picked up food from there and it was pretty bad. No idea what kind of steak was in the fajitas but it was horrible. The tamales were like nothing I've ever had and I don't mean that in a...good way. Decent customer service.More

The taco fajitas (we ordered the steak and chicken) were awesome and the side of beans and rice we ordered were very tasty. The amount of food we got for the price was an awesome value.

My family, kids included, love Los Aztecas. We've tried many of the dishes on the menu, and have never been disappointed. It is our go to restaurant in Galena for a family meal.

Was hungry and looking forward to a tasty dinner. That did not happen. The chips were stale and tasteless, the salsa was good and spicy but it couldn’t redeem the chips or my ala carte order of tostaguacs which were bland and unseasoned meats with...lettuce and tomato on top. No thanks to a return visit.More
