Attended a winepaired veggie 7 course event here and was taken by the vibrant flavors and inventive plating. If you too were getting tired of the restaurant, this new owner/management team is making a turn around and revitalizing the place. Really like the enclosed porch, and the upstairs event room is fun

My lady and I have enjoyed Sunday brunch here a number of times when it was Scholar's Inn. With new ownership the name has changed to the Gourmet Cafe, and we tried the place out for brunch again today. On the surface, very little has changed. The venue is the same familiar place, with our preferred seating being on the... More

I had dinner with a group of 12 friends. First, they put us at separate tables, which seemed strange since there was plenty of room to seat us together. The main problem, however, was the waiter. Disorganized, slow (over an hour between courses) many, many errors in the orders -- and when it finally came most meals were tepid. It... More

Now called the Gourmet Cafe, this is still one of the premier fine dining establishments in Bloomington. We most recently went there for a post-birthday celebration and continue to be impressed. We started with the Eggplant Capponata, a savory combination of eggplant, pinenuts and seasonings served with ricotta and grilled bread. My wife chose one of the night's specials: homemade... More

new chef and ownership has added some originality to what was always a great meal in an academic, personal service environment. Good wine selections. Good for families as well as romantic couples and parents with college-aged kids visiting. One of the top 3 or 4 restaurants in Bloomington.

Just walking into this old, character-filled building puts you in the mood for a good meal. We had a variety of meals from pork to cobb salad - all were very good. Mixed drinks were 50-50, as the old-fashioned had no taste/liquor in it. Desserts were reasonably sized - no huge sharing portions.

There are a number of quite good restaurants in this university town, but truly fine-dining destinations are rare, especially since Tallent closed its doors. Scholar's Inn thrives and survives. I dined there recently with a retired faculty member and enjoyed the ambience, particularly being seated on the enclosed porch shown in the photo on this web page. Yes, the tables... More

This was a great place to have an excellent meal with good wine and desert before going to see Chris Botti perform at the IU Auditorium. There was no wait and the service was excellent. The made sure we had our food in plenty of time to get to the theater and miss the Homecoming traffic rush!

We enjoy this restaurant. The food is good and we had good service. Went for Sunday brunch. My only negative comment would be that they need to do a better job with reservations. We were at first turned away since we didn't have a reservation, but then were offered seats at the bar. But we noted several tables that remained... More
