We come here recently as an alternative to Hollyhock Hill. We like the atmosphere, the staff and the food. Unfortunately it's about a 45 minute drive which is about twice as far. But that being said we think it's worth the drive.

It is called the Iron Skillet because that is how they cook their fried chicken. Everything is served family style and bowls of potatoes, corn, green beans, biscuits and apple butter. The salad is just lettuce with a great vinegar based dressing. The fried chicken was absolutely delicious and made you remember Grandma's cooking. Ice cream for dessert with your... More

Its great old fashioned comfort food. The owner/manager really cares and the place is very nice but yet very relaxed. The Fried Chicken is the best in the city by far.

Since 1956, I've been coming to this fabulous family style restaurant. I've introduced many friends/relatives/co-workers & continue to enjoy a delicious meal with outstanding service. Our most recent visit was no exception. From the time your reservation is taken, your mouth starts to water for all the fantastic dishes you will experience. Known for their fried chicken, everything is top... More

A family group of 15 ate lunch here Oct. 2. We had a reservation and we were seated promptly at 1:00 pm. My sister and I had eaten here occasionally since about 1950, and it was always a special occasion. The other 13 in the family had not eaten here before, and all seemed to enjoy it. There are about... More

So we had a family wedding and several flew in from around the country and wanted to go here because they had Sunday dinner here in the early sixties and wanted to relive it. So we got an invitation for 15 on Sunday to go to the Iron Skillet. I had to read it twice and sent a text to... More

Old establishment with lots of character. Subtle elegance. People are charming. The food compliments the atmosphere.

I make it a point when visiting relatives to get to the Iron Skillet. Not going to be blown away by the décor but the food and the staff are what makes this a great place. As usual the fried chicken is the star, but as mentioned in other reviews the starters are also very good. The ice cream with... More
