This is in a good location, cozy atmosphere. There are a couple of girls working behind the counter that are not very personable but the others are great. I normally ordered a white chocolate mocha or white tea. Both good. Reasonably priced as well. Tried their breakfast sandwich and that was pretty good as well, a little expensive.

Most iconic coffee shop downtown and not only is their coffee amazing, they have a great breakfast, and lunch menu. I recommend their bagel bites with homemade schmears ontop. During the presidential races, you're likely to catch a candidate or two doing live interviews here with MSNBC or CBS so be ready to go through a security checkpoint!

Read about this place on the Roadfood site and, as we were passing through the area on our cross-country trek, we took a detour for lunch and went to Java Joe's in downtown Des Moines. We found street parking nearby and walked in to find a place that features a working coffee roasting business up front and a repurposed general... More

Whether it's a delicious breakfast burrito and coffee or an evening beer and humus, this place is great.

Stopped in here after the Iowa state fair for coffee for a long drive home. The two guys working were extra friendly, and the coffee was fantastic! The store was cute and had a little nook for kids to play. Wish we had something like that back home!

Eclectic atmosphere but gloomy. The coffeehouse felt like a throwback to the 70s and not in a good way. How about adding some color, brightness and a more polished looking environment? Their worst sin however, was serving lukewarm coffee.

The coffee is ok, but not "wow" like you would expect. You won't be disappointed but you won't walk out saying to yourself "man that was the best damn cup of coffee I ever had." The interior could use a make over. Its decorated along the lines of a TGIF. "Hey let's put some old license plates on the wall.... More

This is so the place to be during caucus season. If you love politics then you have to go here. You will see everyone from every party due to MSNBC morning show broadcasting live from here. We also love this place at any other time because the coffee is wonderful

I can tell you the coffee smelled great but since neither my wife and I drink coffee we can only review the breakfast food we enjoyed. My wife had a bagel and cream cheese and the bagels are made fresh daily. I had a bagel breakfast sandwich and it was served hot and delicious. My sandwich had a fold of... More
