My wife and I had a very nice dinner at Hays House on a night away from Manhattan. We sat upstairs for dinner on Saturday night. I recommend sitting upstairs if possible for the ambiance. We split an order of prime rib with a baked potato and salad bar. Everything was delicious. We also had a bottle of wine which... More

While this is not fare I could make a steady diet of, it was wonderful and fun. The ambience was great with all the old photos of the buildings past that shows it in the Oregon Trail days. Excellent fried chicken and the desserts are delicious!

We had a great time at the Hays House on Easter. Staff was very busy, friendly, and courteous. The buffet featured the Hays House fried chicken and ham both of which were excellent. Salad bar was Top notch, my daughter loves their house dressing. Everything was Cook to perfection and they have a egg and vegetable dressing that you can... More

We stopped here mainly because it was advertised as the oldest continually run restaurant west of the Mississippi. I am somewhat attracted to things like the largest ball of twine. Sometimes I get surprised with amazement and/or quality. This was one of those times. So... Rustic yes Historical yes Service was prompt and friendly Food was very good and read... More

We had our wedding reception in the Crystal Room this last March. A BIG, heartfelt thank you to Melissa and your staff for taking such great care of us. The food was great, and the service was far beyond what we could have asked for. The time and attention was very much appreciated by all. And Melissa made the planning... More

Incredible historical setting. Updated to 21st century but with 1800s appeal. Great food and all of that at reasonable prices!

Group drove hour and half for supper. Staff was very unfriendly. Told us we should just eat buffet. Never refilled drinks. Desert was not as listed on menu. Chicken takes 45 minutes we were told. Would not recommend. So disappointed.

I was there on a Wednesday when a buffet is offered and that's what I chose. Fried chicken, one of their specialties, is featured and it really was good. Of course, the historic building is a big part of the attraction and the hostess happily turned on lights in idle rooms and pointed out various points of interest.

Hays House is part of Kansas history, but it also serves very good food. While we stopped this morning for breakfast, you have to try the biscuits, the speciality for years has been their pies and fried chicken. Fri ed ndly family atmosphere and small town charm.
