Best restaurant in town

After visiting the caves we had lunch at Mr Prakash’s restaurant. We had Indian dishes and our guides had local food. It has probably been a while since he had falang guests but he could cook everything he had on the menu. Excellent food, good value for money.

Surprised to find such good indian food in a village in Laos

Great place in Vieng Xay. Made my stay in the area more enjoyable. Visit the caves and other places, then enjoy a good meal. Very good home made indian food. Coffee is very good as well. Freshly ground high quality beans. Owner is a great guy from Odisha, India. Helped me out telling me about options for busses and trains and is just an overall good person. Wish him all the best.

Amazing place! About service: Indian family speaking fluent english. Great for help, buying simcard, to top up sim card, tourist info of the area or advice at which place to stay and which one to avoid. To bad we checked in at a place on the water before we discovered this place. Also money exchange possible but the Bcel atm (cheapest ATM to withdraw money from in Lao) is just 100meters on the right seen from inside the restaurant. About the food: Great food for all day around. Great breakfest set with all included fruit, eggs, pancake/bread or granola with milk or soy milk and coffee. Granola comes all the way from vientiane! All for fixed price around 2.5euro. Dinner both Lao as Indian options including lentils, chick peas etc. Great proteins for vegan and vegetarian! Also fresh juices and all kinds of meat and even shrimps and squid. We can highly recommend this place as well as the town. There is a cool cave, some good stays, a bcel atm as I mentioned, a waterfall and a viewpoint and not to forget: this great restaurant. A great place to stop overnight if you come or go to vietnam!

Excellent indian food & very friendly service

The place is not easy to spot beside the main road by the junction in the middle of Vieng Xai but once you’ve found it, you’ll discover some Lao dishes as well as Indian dishes (that we had). The family that own the place are extremely friendly and the food was delicious. They speak english so communicating was very easy. We highly recommend!

Great food and friendly owners

We had a very tasty Indian meal, with yummy parathas. Would definitely recommend. Set breakfast was also very good with chatty and helpful owners. Go enjoy Viang Xai. Stay the night.

Prakash and his partner cook amazing food (recommend ++ the channa gobi and the smokey aubergine) and were so incredibly helpful when I was in Vieng Xai! I thought I would have to take a $15 taxi back to Xam Neua (apparently the 3pm bus only goes if there are enough passengers), but they printed my Vietnam visa, took in my laundry for a reasonable rate and even rang ahead for the 9am Vietnam bus to stop directly at the restaurant to pick me up, on the morning I left! I had a very enjoyable time in Vieng Xai, thanks so much to you both! You sorted everything out for me and I loved your delicious food! Appreciate it ever so much ☺️

Delicious food and so welcoming

When you travel, you sometimes meet people who go out of their way to be very welcoming and helpful. The owner of Sabaidee Odisha is one such person. He is welcoming, very friendly, helpful and informative. Thank you so much for making me feel so welcome in Viang Xai, helping with bus information and serving delicious food. This restaurant serves freshly cooked, delicious dishes. I highly recommend the paneer (made with tofu, which works really really well), the excellent chapatis and parathas and the delicious curried vegetables. Thank you so much and I highly recommend anyone in Viang Xai to visit this place.

Excellent food: a great add-on to a trip to Vieng Xai cave city

We stopped in here for lunch following a wonderful morning spent touring the Pathet Lao cave city in Vieng Xai. We went for the Indian dishes, washed down with a mug of masala chai and followed by a bowl of khir (kheer) for dessert and both agreed that this was the best meal we had had in Laos in our two weeks here. It made us wish we had chosen to stay in a guesthouse in Vieng Xai rather than Sam Neua. We would have eaten here for every meal, every day! Oh yes, and the price? A little under 100,000 kip for everything.

An Unexpected Surprise

The exterior (and interior) of this restaurant are not appealing but don't be put off by this. The food on offer is delicious, cooked and served by an affable Indian couple. I had onion pakoras (excellent), followed by chicken curry (good) and paratha bread (delicious). All in all it was a very pleasant meal and I'm happy to recommend the restaurant.

A trip to the Pathet Lao Caves

We arrived after a long hungry drive and were delighted by the welcome at this simple but charming restaurant run by a couple from Odisha in Eastern India. The food is all freshly prepared and a mixture of Laotian and Indian fare. I don’t think I have had a Pork Curry before. All our food was delicious, the Beerlao cold. We were back for breakfast after an early trip to the caves. Delightful.

Very good Indian food!

During my stay in the nice city of Viangxai I visited Sabaidee Odisha Restaurant several times for dinner and breakfast. The Indian dishes I had there were excellent! Also the owner of the restaurants is very friendly and helpful, he can give you information about the bus timetable for example.

Must-go Indian place in Vieng Xai

Very good Indian restaurant in Vieng Xai. I had Indian food, which was wonderful (chicken curry, aloo gobi, nan, masala chai), but they also have Lao food. The owners are an Indian couple who have been living in Vieng Xai for almost a decade. He is a very nice and helpful man, he'll help you with all you need in this village, he also rents a couple of bicycles for a very good price. I regretted not to buy also some take away food for the long bus ride.. If you go to Vieng Xai to see the caves, don't miss this place!

What a find!

Delightful - don’t be put off by the exterior which doesn’t look too inviting because you are in for a treat here. The owner cooks all the food from scratch so it is both fresh and perfectly presented. We ordered paratha and several curries and noted there was western or Lao food if you preferred but the Indian food was great. Charming people.

Tasty food, helpful owner, great meeting place in town

Super delicious local and Indian food at a great price. The owner speaks perfect English was very helpful with all information I could need, and even helped me exchange money when the banks were closed on Sunday. It's really a good hangout spot for beers or tea and meeting place for travellers in the area (since there are so few of us!) Definitely a friendly spot and good place to eat.
