Southern Spice has a good selection on their menu but they also have plate lunches during the week. Good food at reasonable prices. Many older people go in for dinner to eat the plate lunch. Reason is good food, large portions for a good price....That is always a winning combination.More

Visiting for the first time we discovered that Lake Charles has lots of places to eat, but we chose the Southern Spice Restaurant & Grill; and we were quite pleased. Immediately greeted, sit anywhere, handed menus, attentive staff. We ordered the shrimp etoufee; and I...ordered the Shrimp-Po-Boy! Etoufee was fine, looked a little weird, but was good. There is nothing "poor" about the Shrimp Po-Boy!! It was packed, and I do mean packed w/ Shrimp. I shared about 12 shrimp to the Etoufee eater; so I could flatten my "Po-Boy" so it would fit in my mouth! Finally took another 8 shrimp out of the sandwich and ate them separately. Quite filling, very fresh, and would highly recommend this restaurant to others. We lingered longer than most, but our server did not rush us, told us to take our time and we had a great dining experience.More

I had breakfast there, again, great service and food is excellent. The veggie omelette is super and filling. Add some wheat toast and grits... like being at home.

This is locally owned and operated store that is consistently very good to excellent in their recipes. It is a nice homey atmosphere, clean, well ordered, and the servers are just plain great. The food is just really really good and I do mean, everything....Over the years I'd tried everything but the liver and onions and folks not even at gun point will I eat that dish... though my wife loves theirs. They do great breakfasts, lunches and dinner, The menu is comprehensive and I do love their gumbo, chicken fried steak and chicken fried chicken. AND, their burgers and fries are from heaven and on any given day the best in the city. I also love their fresh 3 layer cakes that the owner makes. They aren't on the menu since they change with her mood as to what to bake. So what you see is what you can get. Don't worry they have other menu deserts there all the time This a really good place to eat and my default restaurant when in the city. The front desk person at our hotel recommended this place to us so we decided to give it a shot. We are so glad we did. I'm actually sorry we were only in town for one night because we definitely would have come back again...if we were there for longer. Will definitely visit again if I am ever in Lake Charles as there were several items we saw passing by that we wanted to try because they looked so good. Server was great, she was busy with a larger table but was still able to give us great service. Definitely worth a visit! We were also pleasantly surprised at our bill. 1st time in Lake Charles and decided to give this restaurant a try. Well worth thetime - great service and food. Stop in during lunchtime and place was busy - decided to have one of the lunch specials - shrimp and crab stew over rice...with butter beans and smothered okra plus dessert. Plenty of food and definitely will be back.More

I took a group of older adults to eat lunch at Southern Spice. The food and service was great! The Hostess...not so much. She informed one of our people that we came close to losing out tables because we were a little late due to...a traffic jam. But other than that, it was good.More

We have eaten here several times! We have never been disappointed. The hamburgers, chicken fried steak, hamburger steak & fried fish are just a few of the items we have enjoyed!

Our favorite meal here is breakfast, available until 10:30 am. The eggs are cooked to order: medium is whites done, yolks runny, perfectly! Sausage patty is yummy, home fries crispy and delicious, biscuits are heavenly. They even have cut flowers on each table. The service...crew is friendly and helpful. And it's a great value.More

We've eaten at Southern Spice several times!! Their hamburgers and hamburger steaks are delicious!! The restaurant is small with personable staff! We will certainly visit & enjoy more fabulous food at this establishment!!
