The Rat Inn is simply brilliant. The ultimate country pub near Hexham. Good range of real ales and FANTASTIC food. Great menu, local products. Staff lovely. Keep winning national awards for food. Lovely views down Tyne valley. Big garden area. Brilliant pub.

The Rat never fails to impress. Despite being busy, shows the local reputation, service was good not in your face or too slow. Steaks were great, locally sourced as usual. The rabbit and herb risotto very locally sourced was definitely a recipe one would like...More

We have wanted to try The Rat for quite some time and it definitely didn't disappoint. Although it has a very small blackboard menu you can see all your typical gastro pub dishes, at a fair price, using locally sourced ingredients! It's got a lovely...More

We called in here for lunch after a recommendation. The staff were very welcoming and even though they were clearly full, they squeezed us in. The food was fresh, fantastic, amazing local quality and served with a big smile. We drove 40 minutes from our...More

Visited on a Saturday lunchtime. Booked a table which probably was necessary as the restaurant was relatively busy. Good choice of well kept beers. Apparently the menu varies daily, but what we had was truly and universally delicious. One of the best pub meals I...More

Little rural pub flourishing on great service, ales and gastro standard cuisine. If you are a meat lover , then you are sure to go for a steak- each cut of beef in the kitchen weighed, priced and chalked on the board for you to...More

We were out shopping in Corbridge with my wife's sister and brother-in-law and decided to have lunch here. We were quickly served with our drinks and the young lady servers were very friendly and very attentive. We ordered our food only to be disappointed. Three...More

We enjoyed a lovely 3 course meal for our wedding anniversary. They have a great gin and tonic menu for an aperitif and then lots of daily specials which are constantly upgraded. We had salmon, halloumi, red mullet and a lovely veggie shepherds pie for...More

Visited the Rat Inn after a morning at Allen Banks, we decided to visit as the pub was dog friendly. Unfortunately you are only allowed to sit outside in the garden, therefore we found being advertised as a dog friendly quite misleading. However we decided...More

Dear beverleyd392, Thanks for your review. I totally empathise with your position. Its quite galling when one is expecting a superior dining experience, to then have hopes dashed when one is presented with the underwhelming cheese and chutney buttie. The least one could expect is a...More

We visited the rat on a return trip from the borders shortly after lunchtime on a Saturday. It was busy when we arrived, and we had to wait for fifteen minutes to be seated. The surroundings are very cosy, and there is a really nice friendly...More

Yes you can, though it's uphill and not (the first part anyway) very scenic as you'd have to leave Hexham via the industrial estate! I did it the other way on my nephew's stag night a few years back! Robert
