We have now visited this restaurant twice and on both occasions we were greeted by friendly waitress who showed us to our seats with an incredible view off the bridges. As before drinks arrived promptly and the food was well presented. For starters this time we had the King prawns and the Eyemouth crab meat, they were both delicious! For mains we had the scallops and the braised rump of lamb, the were both done perfectly and again both dishes we absolutely delicious. For dessert we shared the profiteroles and again were to die for! We also enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of the restaurant which goes hand in hand with the view. Cannot fault this gem of a place, this is fast becoming one of our favourite restaurants, we even bought a wowcher deal for a family member. We will definitely be back again.

Once again a faultless experience at the boathouse, our favourite place! Our family know how much we love it here so gave us vouchers for xmas. As we have been busy decorating we felt we deserved a treat,so decided to spend them this weekend. We had a lovely wee spot at the window, overlooking the rail bridge( heaven!). We are foodies, so had the full 3 courses! The scotch egg starter contained the BEST, PERFECTLY cooked boiled egg! My husband had the rib eye steak,he has it rare and it was PERFECT. staff are attentive, but not standing over you, our waitress this visit was Lee-Anne, very friendly, cheerful and professional. Love the boathouse..highly reccomend to anyone.

I booked The Boathouse for my wife’s birthday during our trip to Edinburgh, South Queensferry is a lovely place with a lot of places to eat, this was one of the best meals we’ve had for a long time , we were greeted by friendly staff and shown to our table with all COVID restrictions you would expect in place service was prompt and the menu offered good choice. We had a full three courses with starters of crab meat and the second of mussels in the white wine sauce both were really good but the sauce with the mussels was amazing. We both had the tuna for our main from the specials menu again this was really well cooked and so very tasty. Finally we had feeders of sticky toffee pudding and cheese cake. The service was excellent the price was good and I would recommend that anyone visiting South Queensferry try’s to eat here you will not be disappointed.

Having been given a gift for Xmas of vouchers we were looking forward to a meal at the Boat House, however having tried on a number of different occasions to reserve a table on various different days of the week at different times we were worried that the voucher was going to expire before it could be used. Having expressed this concern when trying to make a reservation, again unsuccessfully, we were told the vouchers had been oversold and would be extended for a further two weeks. So once again we tried to make a reservation for a Tuesday evening this time, only to be told that our voucher had expired and was not extended despite being told otherwise the previous week. The manner of the person on the phone was absolutely disgusting and despite trying to clarify the fact we had been told the voucher was extended the phone was hung up mid conversation. We immediately called back and asked for the Manager only to be told the person we had been talking to was the Manager, Leanne, who then ended the conversation by saying nobody would have told us the voucher was extended and it wasn't her problem. To be honest we would now never attend the establishment regardless but for a family member to give us a gift that has gone to waste through no fault of our own is disappointing. If this is the service given to people simply trying to make a booking I truely dread to think what level of service is given to anyone who actually gets in the door!

We have been taking bookings since the second week in january and there has been plenty availability for most dates ,in the last week of the deal which was the last week in feb we extended the deal for another two weeks as were aware that a lot of people had left it to the last minute so we were more than happy to do so, nobody has ever said the vouchers were over sold.we have filled the last two weeks with customers phoning within the expiry date.We at the Boathouse however try to accomadate our customers wishes as best we can but will not tolerate verbal abuse over the phone by the caller or anybody else in the background .The reason why we feel the need to reply to this is to give anybody reading this a balanced view.

We booked for dinner over a busy September weekend and were very disappointed with the restaurant itself. Upon entering the restaurant, it felt like going into a hairdressers. There was no clear direction to the restaurant area and no staff or welcoming sign as you enter. The restaurant area downstairs was busy but very bright and no atmosphere. There were three different rooms to be seated and we were directed to the third room at the back of the restaurant. The decor looked bare, almost as though the room had recently been plastered. There was no warmth or cosy/comfortable setting within the room or even at tables. The light was so bright, it felt like we were sitting in someone’s newly plastered front room with the big light on. You couldn’t see the view of the water outside due to the bright light inside. There was also a flickering light in the corner of the room, perhaps to draw attention to waiters of the kitchen. It was no subtle or unnoticeable and was very distracting. The food itself was good, but honestly our experience was already a disappointment with the lack of atmosphere

As if times are not hard enough for this industry or the people that rely on their jobs you feel the need to publicly slate a place that does serve good food as you have stated and the inability to look at big arrows directing you downstairs .We are not allowed to play music or any table decorations ie. candles etc as well as spreading out our diners due to helping stop the spread of the major pandemic that we are in currently. Very disappointed

We have wanted to visit The Boathouse for a while as usually go to Scott's or Orroco Pier, so thought our wedding anniversary was the ideal opportunity, unfortunately not. Taking aside the Covid arrangements, which we understand are trying to operate in a challenging environment, the whole night was a disappointment. Our 'welcome" when we arrived downstairs at the bar was a short wait for the two waitresses to finish their personal chat, not a great start. Our table was a window seat which had the amazing view (best part of the reastaurant) apart from having multiple flies hovering around us for the whole night and our view distorted by a bird bath full dirty water and cigarette butts. Not pleasant. The starters of hummus and goat cheese were ok, hummus was tasteless and the smallest piece of goats cheese for the price. My husband enjoyed the cajun chicken burger and fries. My veggie choice we were informed after ordering that they didnt have any veggie burgers. Only other veggie option was mushroom ravioli, not a fan of mushrooms so I ordered a starter nachos as no other options. Arrived not as menu described, piled high with peppers and drowned in a melted sour cream type sauce. I left them uneaten. A side order of sweet potato fries came incorrectly as halloumi fries so had to wait again to be cooked. Even my drink of Diet Coke, first was a tiny bottle, second order was the syrup gun which was undrinkable. I requested water. Couldnt wait to leave and wont be returning. Such a shame for a lovely view.

My partner and I have been to Boathouse a few times in the past. Today we thought we would treat ourselves as we have not eaten out in a while given the current circumstances by enjoying a meal here. We were so disappointed! From the service to the quality of food we could not believe the standard. Even when my partner pointed out (see photo uploaded) about the hard bits of kale which came as part of the Calamari starter, the manager said she had spoken to the kitchen and this was normal. The stalks of the kale had been left within the dish which made it very unappetising. There was no apology just justification by the manager that the stalks should be in the dish. Further, the service was unfriendly, we had booked a window seat but were told these were all pre-booked and seated in an 8 seater booth! Later on a couple who had complained about their seats were moved along with their food to a window seat and asked “if that was better for them?..” ah a window seat available after all! We will not be rushing back here! The only thing this restaurant has to offer is the views!

Hi just a response to some of the inaccuracies in your comments The window seats cannot be pre booked its who books first As was explained the stalk of the Kale should not have been in the dish and an apology was given even though it was met with an unfriendly response You were given a booth because that also gave you nice views as the other tables had booked before you and you turned down another table in another room Later on another couple were moved to the window as a booking did not turn up the couple did not complain it was just good customer service Its disappointing in these trying times when we get reviews like this even when clean plates come back to the kitchen because somebody" could not get a window seat"

Was expensive for what it was. Amazing views, thoroughly let down by daft mistakes which tbh, current situation is not an excuse for, good service but a decided lack of chef-ing was brutally apparent. Crab starter was chilled to bland nothingness,at an estimate, it was a smidge above 0 deg c. I would guess the pot of crab came out of the fridge around 2 secs prior to being put on the plate, no butter accompanying the dry toast, for nearly £8, expect a bit more. The plate was also very hot, which meant the salad that was touching the plate was reduced to limp and soggy and quite distressed looking, was dressed with an OK dressing, but spoiled by a plate that either came just out the dishwasher, or sat under lights. So a starter which mixed the cold bits and warmer bits up. Temp difference between plate and crab must have been at least 25 degc. 3/10. The fish and chips was OK, but serving frozen chips with a small-med fish is not acceptable for £13. Peas, OK, tartare sauce, OK. 4/10 In summary, OK, but a decided lack of attention to detail detracted from what should have been a simple and straightforward lunch, should have went to the chippy and saved myself £25.

First meal out in over 4 months and unfortunately was left feeling disappointed. Working in the hospitality industry myself I understand this has been a challenging time however I picked up on a lot of flaws including poor customer service which should be standard at any restaurant you go to. Arrival/welcome seemed a little unprofessional. No staff member approached us during the duration of our time here other than to take our order, did not check how our meal was - this is surely basic customer service? My garlic chicken main course was not enjoyable as the chicken was of poor quality. I left majority off it on the plate, perhaps the waitress could have noticed this and checked if everything was okay with the food... If we were to have been asked how if we enjoyed our meal I would have hoped this could have been dealt with at the time, however since we were not asked it was slightly uncomfortable and awkward. We had already flagged up that we were cold due to our table being directly beside the door which was being used to serve the outdoor area. Initially we asked to move however there was no tables available in the restaurant. I understand this is just one of those things, however the staff were frequently leaving the door wide which I feel was not courteous to those of us having to eat there meal in a cold restaurant. The table beside us which was further away from the door became vacant after we had finished our starters and was still empty even after we left, yet we were still not offered to move. I had emailed my feedback to the manager in hope that they would be in touch to acknowledge my experience and deal with it professionally, however I still have not yet had a response.

Arrived at restaurant with our itison voucher for full menu . Placed into a back room away from any atmosphere along with fellow itisoners . Felt like being ushered to the cheap seats in a theatre . If you are going to do that Boathouse then don’t do itison , does nothing for your reputation and we certainly wouldn’t go or advise anyone to go now . Staff were friendly , no problem there and food was good . Started with 2 starters which were generous in size but followed by 2 mains which really were not worth the menu price . £18 for 5 scallops a slice of black pudding broken up and some green leaves and 3 small potatoes . poor . Sweets were also poor value at £6.45 menu price . All in all very disappointed and let down .

Booked dinner in the evening with a voucher we got for Christmas . We were a bit disappointed at the small and limited menu . Having said that we could not fault the extremely tasty Fish Cake starter and the Coley and Mussel chowder main course with profiteroles to finish up . We feel that if the restaurant is using vouchers to fill seats , a slightly better menu would entice customers to come back and try the main menu . I would have given a five rating if it had been a better menu . The staff were very pleasant and helpful

Worth checking weight of portion prior to ordering. At £26 our friends were unimpressed at the almost slither of steak presented to them, not helped by being served a dry over cooked offering, which in fairness was exchanged without issue for medium/rare as originally requested. Surely at £26 (a further £2.60 for pepper corn sauce) it would an idea to advise customer of Ribeye weight at point of sale,to minimise disappointment. Still hungry for a good steak ☹️

Stopped by at lunchtime with my wife and two friends on 5/10/2020. Staff were very friendly and after a short delay whilst a window seat was sanitised for our use, we took our seat with spectacular views of the Forth Rail Bridge. I chose the sea bass, served on crayfish risotto and with tempura asparagus spears. It was absolutely delicious! My dining partners spoke very highly of their choices: pate, wagu burger and garlic chicken with macaroni croquettes . Having driven south over the Queensferry Crossing it is very worthwhile bypassing the fast food outlets and making the short detour to Queensferry. I would definitely recommend you visit for both the delicious food and spectacular views.

The place had a few tables free, the food was being served but the front of house decided that they were closed for an hour between 4-5 pm which was not advertised anywhere. I can understand if it was advertised, however it would appear if we had booked a table at 4pm we would have been allowed in as the first question was have you booked. All I can say was she was hostile towards walk-ins and as a result the place next door got our £100 and could not highly recommend them enough (very tasty curry) To summarise, if you are a walk-in. Walk past and go next door!

Having won a voucher in a Xmas raffle I was excited about dining at the Boathouse. I looked at reviews which were mostly good apart from the ones that had used vouchers! As previously stated in other reviews we were also shown to back dining room, (Main dining room only had three tables being used, same when we left). Having looked online at the menu, the set menu we were given had clearly been put together specifically for voucher users as none of the three starter or main dishes were on the online menu. Only two choices for dessert, one of which was profiteroles, obviously shop bought. Value of the voucher was supposed to have been £60! We are not big eaters but ate all three courses easily. All in all food was average, couldn’t fault the staff, pleasant and attentive but I think The Boathouse have missed out on an opportunity to entice new diners into their establishment, (surely that is the whole point of these vouchers) as set menu let them down. Sadly won’t be returning or recommending.

Hi Lizzie do not know which set menu you have been looking at online but since the the start of january there has only been two changes to the menu one being the soup and one night we took out the coley as a main and replaced it with salmon, there has always been only two choices of desserts as per the menu online. In regards to you using the back dining rooms which still give you a view of the bridge we get extremely busy and plan the evening accordingly ,,we do value every customer that comes through the door no matter where we sit them .Can i also remind you that of that£60 value £12 of that goes to the goverment as vat.I do hope that i have answered all you points in a balanced and fair manner .
