I've lived in Maine all my life and had never been here until last night. We went to celebrate a family birthday and were not disappointed. The atmosphere and staff were very welcoming. We all ordered something different, and everyone loved their meal. My son...had the prime rib special and it was huge. I ordered fried clams and they were among the best I've ever eaten. We were very satisfied with the quality and quantity of the portions. They seem understaffed, but it's the same everywhere nowadays. The servers were literally running trying to help customers, so if you have no patience or are in a big hurry, this might not be for you. It was perfect for us as we had plenty of time to eat and enjoy each other's company. So for people who like to get together and are not in a rush, it's great. It's not cheap, but I feel it was comparable to any of the better restaurants in Maine. Excellent value except for the dessert prices--those were a little high. So big deal--skip dessert. Thanks for a memorable evening and we will definitely be back.More

I planned on the seafood salad based on the website photo. It met my expectations 100%! The lobster, shrimp and crab were perfectly cooked and super fresh. The abundance of a variety of veggies were great too. My companions were equally pleased with their meals....Bravo!More

Not so great this time. Service was very slow - the bartender kept disappearing. I got a cup of the day's tomato soup and a side salad. The soup was just okay, and they still serve the sala on a small plate with the dressing...on the side, so it's impossible to mix in the dressing without scattering the salad all over the place. It's a sloppy mess. I don't know why they don't serve it in a bowl. I was going to ask the bartender for a bowl, but she was gone for ten minutes so I didn't bother. The salad wasn't anything special -- mostly iceberg lettuce, a few carrot strips and cuke slices, one tomato wedge and one red onion wedge. The mini loaf of bread was a nice touch, though.More

Three of us had dinner at JR Maxwell's on 04-14-2023. I couldn't decide between the Veal Marsala and the Seafood Medley. Ashley, our server, recommended the veal, which was excellent. One friend had the Scallops Carbonara, which she said was marvelous, and the other had...the Steak Au Poivre, which was also excellent. The Cadbury Egg Cheesecake is to die for (I also got two to go), the salted caramel cheesecake was great, and the pecan pie was excellent. Great service: prompt, courteous, professional, with none of the fake "buddy-buddy" attitude so prevalent today. Top-notch food, top-notch service, great ambiance. Worth ten stars, if I could do it.More

Recommended by our hotel for dinner and we were not disappointed. Great food and great atmosphere. Soft music so you could still hear each other speak. TVs on the walls but we chose to admire the ship themed restaurant and comment on what we saw....Seated promptly and our server was pleasant and prompt with our drinks and food. Fish and chips, steak and baked stuffed haddock were ordered along with buffalo chicken wings and clam chowder and famous onion soup. The desserts were tasty. Cost was average to above average.More

First, Michelle, our waitress was awesome. As many know since the pandemic, servers and waitresses are carrying a load with the shortage of staff. Yet our entire experience from the moment we walked in to the moment we walked out was incredible. Everything the four...of us ordered exceeded our expectations. I recommended if you are I Bath, make this a stop and ask for Michelle!!!More

We went to this restaurant on recommendation of our B $ B host. We weren’t disappointed. Two for Tuesday special was on, 2 main meals for $32. Meals were great. Service good, drinks reasonably priced

We were looking for a place open a smidgen later and received a recommendation to come here. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful throughout our whole visit. Overall food was good! The crabmeat roll was very well filled, bread toasted well, tasted very fresh....I did take the large piece of lettuce off - tasted better without it. The chowder was great - well seasoned. We think the fried clams could have been slightly less greasy and might have been better as one clam piece per piece (some were 4-5 clams that had stuck together in one massive piece). There’s a good chance that’s just our personal preference.More

This was a much better experience than my previous one a year ago. I got the veal piccata and it was great, as was the glass of riesling. The sides of baked potato and salad were also good. Nice atmosphere, excellent bartender, and very reasonable...prices compared to my neck of the woods (or seaside), Portland.More

Although we had reservations, we had to wait quite awhile for them to clear a table. I know help is hard to find but there were at least 3 employees standing at the bar talking. When we were finally seated, it took another 10 minutes...before our server came to the table. At that time she had 2 other tables she was working. Another 10 minutes to place our order. Food came quickly and for the most part, it was good. I was disappointed with my ham and cheese sandwich. For $8.95, you should get more than a single slice of deli ham and a single slice of cheese. No condiments. Had to request those. House chips are excellent as is the clam chowder. Fried haddock and chicken piccata are always good. We eat here 3-4 times per month and this is the first time I’ve been disappointed. I’ll chalk it up to just a bad night.More

The service and food were the worst ever on our otherwise lovely multiple week trip to Maine. The waiter walked by our table countless times without acknowledging us. Finally after 30 minutes took our order. After another 30 minutes the chowder came but was not...edible due to the salt content. The salad leaves were wilted and not the least bit cold. Meals were not placed on the table, but dropped from a distance with no communication.More

We went to dinner there for the 2nd time. First time had some hiccups with staff and food so figured we would give it another shot. Husband ordered the scallops and they were severely overcooked as was the baked potato. He said it seemed like...it was made on Wednesday and we were there on a Saturday. I order the steak au poivre and it was literally sitting in a plate full of the sauce. Just a little on the top is just fine. Mashed potatoes were good as was the side salad. Blueberry pie was good. Waitress was very busy and seemed to be the only one in the dining room waiting on a full house. We know places are having difficulties with getting enough staff, however they can smile. . . Music downstairs sounded great.More

Our waiter was excellent but definitely overworked as he was having trouble keeping up. A sign of the times I guess. I had an EXCELLENT chicken piccata however they served it without pasta. In my many, many years of getting this dish I cannot imagine...why no pasta. Instead you get two sides like coleslaw and a salad. Chicken piccata, chicken marsala, etc always have pasta.More
