Tao Yuan has been offering a tour of China through a series of takeout meals recently. Tonight was our first time to try it. The theme today was Tibet (though I struggle to think of Tibet as part of China, ever). This was simply the best takeout meal we’ve had since COVID-19 began. It was an abbreviated form of the Tao-Yuan tasting menus of the past, and just right for the home venue. We picked up the meal at 4:30 pm, and placed it in the oven at 200 until we were ready to eat. The most notable item was the Tibetan meatballs: they held together firmly until you placed them in your mouth, when they fell apart into a wonderful, tasty texture. Superb. Politics aside, this is worth repeating.

Resturant is closed due to virus but there doing a Pop Up called Zao Ze. You order and pay the day you want to pick up. There is outside dining or take it to go. The menu is available via Tao Yuan's web site. It was hard to choose there were so Manu neat things on the menu. Spouse had a wheat based noodle it was just a bit spicy but delicious. I ordered 5 small items from the hot and sweet section and loved everything I had. You want to make this a Brunswick stop!

Feels like you are in someone’s home . Cozy . The chairs a bit tight for me ( this was before Covid so I bet this is no longer the case) Small plate restaurant . We felt like back home and having a fancy dinner in Beverly Hills. We locals in Brunswick and are eager to go back to be spoiled .

I was excited to find this restaurant as I love Dim Sum and have been eating this specialized Chinese cuisine for 43 years. I’ve eaten it at restaurants that serve it in the traditional large room where it is served ala carte and at at Asian fusion places like this. I was at a training and had 1 hour for lunch and due to COVID I had to order online and I pressed the as soon as possible option at noon. When I arrived I was told I couldn’t get it until 12:45 only giving me 15 minutes to eat and drive the 9 minutes back to the training. I told them I was in a hurry and this was something I needed to know at the time. I was told it just needed to be packed and yet five minutes later nothing. I heard the staff arguing and finally said, “I really need to go” only to be told they still needed to pack it. I was so hungry and looking forward to eating but was so disappointed because the flavors were not even close to what they should be and further I did not like their version. The Peking dumpling meatball was the size of a silver dollar placed in a 3 inch dumpling so it was practically all dumpling with hardly any filling. Also I couldn’t taste any hoisin sauce flavor which is strong and distinct. The crepe that said it contained shellfish had none and it was primarily a fried egg with bitter lettuce and no sauce and found it inedible. So I spent $19 and the REQUIRED TIP for a meal that I hated. People seem to love it but for the above stated reasons I was wholly dissatisfied.

Pop up outdoor cafe due to covid, offering set meal nightly, should have been great but wasn’t. Spring rolls were very basic and ok but not worth the $10 up charge for lobster. Beef pho bowl ok but nothing notable. My husband is huge dessert lover and likes just about anything but found the banana coconut pudding almost inedible if not disgusting. For $45 each extremely not worth it. Nice staff but didn’t even clear plates/glasses timely. Maybe some dishes are great but no confidence now. Will not be return customer.

I have done takeout only 2 times since the March covid shutdown but decided I'm going to support local restaurants and have takeout on a regular basis. i use to drive up from Portland to Brunswick to eat at Tao Yuan and haven't had food from there since I moved to Brunswick in April. I was so excited to order food for pickup and I'm bummed that I didn't enjoy it. The 88 slaw, red kimchi and roast pork buns were good but the rest of the meal wasn't. First, I got the chef's choice potstickers and they were shrimp and bacon. They were black on the bottom so all I could taste was burnt char! They were inedible! Second, I absolutely love chive pancakes and these were perfectly cooked. The problem was that they had so much salt on them that they also were inedible. Even trying to rub the salt off the top didn't help. The last dish was the mapo dofu. It was just meh. It was all one note and not that tasty - ate 3 fork fulls and had enough. I didn't even keep the leftovers. $50 for a meal where more than half the food was more than disappointing. I'm hoping this is an anomaly because this has been one of my goto places in the past. I know I won't do take-out again from here for a long time to come.

Extremely over priced and at best average food quality. They don’t offer any wine by the glass and only one white wine bottle among there large selection of sparkling, red or white bottles under $60/bt. They only offer two, one boiled and one pan fried dumpling plate. The meat portion in one dish was way less than 2 oz. Another dish was 90% crispy noodles.

Staff shortages forced Tao Yuan to shut down during the pandemic and it is great they they are back. The restaurant is still very, very good. Our server suggested that six dishes were appropriate for two people, and that proved exactly on target. We finished these courses fully satisfied but not stuffed, and we had to pass on dessert. We also got good advice concerning the spiciness of each menu item, and avoided the two which our server said were especially hot. Several of the dishes did have a bit of fire, but not to the level that we struggled with them. Everything was very good. The restaurant seemed more Asian fusion and creative that it does purely Chinese. Korean influences were certainly apparent. While we enjoyed everything, especially memorable were a tuna sashimi, a sausage open-faced bao and a perfectly cooked duck breast with a pistachio-butter circle around it, a sauce I cannot describe, and pomegranate seeds. A plus is the ample parking, and a downside is a noise level which frequently impeded conversation.

So glad we visited here 3-times for dinner. It was the only restaurant in the the area that took great care with service, food, wine list (!) and beers. Choose different dishes for the table and take your blinders off--you will be pleasantly surprised. Thanks, Chef--keep doing what you do best. Cheers. I hope to visit soon.

My wife and I were in Brunswick for an Event at Bowdoin College and decided to give it a try after seeing the reviews. We didn’t have a reservation but were given the option of sitting at the bar or having a 1+hour wait. So we sat down and decided to try the tasting menu. Each course was beautifully presented and tasted amazing. Besides some restaurants during our trip to Italy last year and our favorite place in Boston this is the best restaurant meal we have experienced. A little expensive but worth splurging!

This place is memorable. Everything is done with precision, care and elegance without being fussy. The wait staff are professional, nice, knowledgeable and remembered us from one visit to the next. We are here two nights in a row and were more impressed each time. The food is simply fabulous. The way the tasting menu builds course after course is brilliant. We will be back.

We couldn’t get a reservation until 8:30 but it was worth the wait. Service was impeccable and the food was mind blowing. From the oysters to the fried cheese, Asian slaw, brussel sprouts, halibut and my favorite citrus infused scallops. Cudos to entire staff. We live in Buffalo, NY and were visiting a friend in Georgetown. The food was worth the nine and a half hour ride from Buffalo.

We had a wonderful dinner on Saturday night- It was really delicious. We enjoyed the scallops, halibut, chicken & strip steak dishes. In addition- had the the spicy greens and the Asian slaw. Loved them all. The spices they use compliment the dishes so well. If we ever get back to Brunswick ME we will dine there for sure!

The food was great as usual, but the noise was horrific! We asked the servers and the manager if they could speak to two other tables about their screaming, yes, screaming. “Well, it’s a birthday party,” was the response. Well, we were trying to enjoy our anniversary party. My wife had to leave the restaurant before dessert because of her headache.

Loved it, combines delicious food with great, accommodating service. I'm generally very nit picky when it comes to restaurants, having worked in many myself, but I found this one hard to fault. One constructive suggestion would be to simplify the pricing of dishes (why $7.88? Why not $8?), which I'm guessing incorporate local taxes but, outside of that, it's top notch and one of the more enjoyable meals I've had in Maine.
