Beautiful views while dining but too bad the dining experience didn't match up. Food was just so-so. Guess they're the only dining establishment on that end of the island so they figure it doesn't matter. Locals coming in after work for drinks & munchies. We ate off of the high end of the menu & were disappointed.

We ordered paella, which was stated as being for one person only. We realized that we would have to pay the extra $5 to share it. What arrived was a large plate with rice, a whole lobster, a large piece of fish (haddock?). steamed shrimp, clams, mussels and scallops, plus two bowls of very bland broth and one of butter.... We recently had lunch at the Cockatoo. The calamari, fish soup & stuffed clams were good. The waitress was very attentive, helpful and friendly. We ate outside, which has an incredible view of the ocean.

While visiting Deer Island we decided to stop by for lunch.. We walked in the restaurant to the screeching of the two cockatoos, but not a single person in sight. No hostess, no servers, no bar-tender, just a open computer atop the bar. Someone was there, but who knows where? Called out "Anyone here?" No one answered except for the... More

The service here is pretty awful. The wait is terrible. There are some Portuguese specials. The fish is very good, Mostly a very active lobstermens' bar

I have been dining here for years. Not everything is good, but the steamed clams and shrimp Mozambique are great.

Was looking forward to our visit. Up in smoke pretty quickly. One of three couples in a pretty huge restaurant. Started with the "recommended" stuffed clams, tasted as though they'd been there a while. Waitress had little knowledge of Portugese wines. Paella was an amazing amount of seafood. A full lobster and mussels and soft shell clams. Shrimp, haddock and... More

While you may not find the best Portuguese food you've ever eaten here, the setting and the charm of the staff totally compensates for this. You will find a unique spot on the coast of Maine with an international team of servers, and an interesting menu. And the view? It's exquisite. The cockatoos are adorable, too.

Great food and staff attentive and professional. Highly recommend. Absolutely best place in the area. We ate there twice for breakfast and twice for dinner and think prices are fair. The location on the ocean is beautiful and view from the restaurant is lovely.
