Has the look and general vibe of a typical family restaurant in Maine, except that it was packed. Considering how few choices there are in Lincoln, and considering how people in rural Maine often prefer bland food, I admit to not expecting much. However, the...Forester Pub down the street was even more packed and was deafeningly loud enough when we went in that we turned around and left.
I'm glad we did: Gillmor's turned out to be a real treat! The food was fabulous and the service was great too - no mean feat for a place so busy. Some of us got seafood, and I (an especially easy sell when the server recommends it) had the pizza. I would go back just for that.
Desserts are mostly prefab but there was at least one inviting homemade option that we tried and enjoyed a lot.
Our waitress, Barb, was a seasoned veteran with a refreshingly keen eye for great service. She had just that perfect combination of friendliness and wisdom to inspire total confidence in not just us but, I noticed, all her guests.
For a place that appears in many ways a 'standard' family dining spot in a sleepy gateway town, I found much to commend by the time we left, including the prim well-lit parking lot (on one side of the building anyway), the easy access, and ability to handle a significant dinner rush with aplomb.More
