Ate dinner and breakfast at Helen's and breakfast was the best. Don't miss the Farmer's Omelette... Delicious! The staff is friendly and the service is fast. They also have fountain sodas here, which is a big deal to me! The pies are baked fresh daily and the blueberry ice cream is actually to-die-for. Helen's also sells pies to go and... More

So glad you could join us in our new space. The river views have been spectacular this spring with bright baby leaves growing larger every day and lots of ausprey diving for their lunch. We appreciate your review and look forward to serving you again soon. More

Great food and service consistently. Excellent Blueberry Pie. We think their clam chowder is good. The Haddock is well prepared every time. Good food at a reasonable price.

Thank you for taking time to share your dining experience with us. Your choices are some of the most popular for the fact that we prepare them fresh everyday in house and they're so tasty. We look forward to serving you again in the future! More

With limited choices along route one in Machias, Helen's is at least convenient. With a long history, the new restaurant is basically a fresh start...don't expect to relive past experiences. Will try again sometime to see if they are able to recreate a memorable Helen's.

Dear Ride Maine, While our building may be different and new our menu is unchanged as are the cooks who prepare your meal. It is unclear in your review if you have indeed eaten with us since our reopening so we encourage you to stop in on your next ride through Machias and give us a try. More

The waitress was somewhat insulted when I asked if the corned beef hash was from a can. I was sort of joking, but she was offended. No. No, the corned beef hash is made fresh, daily. It tastes like it.

Oh dear you must have had a shocked server who doesn't know that years ago we did serve that nasty canned corned beef. We are proud to serve you fresh house made corned beef hash every day. Thank you for your review! More

Helen's has been in Machias forever -- more than 60 years in various iterations. It's always been famous for its pies, which I think at this point are overrated. Rebuilt from the ground up after a fire a couple of years ago, it's now open and kind of echo-y, not the cosy atmosphere it used to have. Food is average... More

Nancy, Thank you for your recent review. Helen's has been in two locations in Machias and as you mentioned we have recently reopened after the devistating fire of 2014. Our new open concept is not the small rooms of the previous old lumber yard building but open concept as to utilize the specatular view of the river. I personally love... More

After a devastating fire 3 years ago, Helen's has been rebuilt into a very handsome place. Service was fine but the food was ordinary. My wife's burger was overcooked as was my salmon, which was chewy and dry. The haddock chowder was very good, but we've had more tasty chowder here in Maine; this chowder was bland. The prices were... More

Dear Mart and Livy, Thank you for taking the time to write a review of you dining experience with us. We are sorry you were not happy with your meal. The wild Alaskian salmon is probably coming off our menu as locals do not like the mealy texture as opposed to the farm raised Atlantic salmon we previously served. The... More

We have been eating at Helen's since it was in it's original location on Main Street. The food has always been wonderful, and the prices affordable. The pies are what they are famous for, and rightfully so. If I don't have room to eat them after my meal, I always bring a slice home with me. I always loved the... More

Dear Katherine, Thank you for your recent review. Designing the rebuild was a challenge for us since we never had given thought to what we might do if something happened to our old space. Reviews of the new space are understandably mixed, some people do not do well with change yet others embrace it. The breakfast counter houses 4 cozy... More

I have eaten here several times hoping it will get better. It never does and just disappoints. The restaurant is very well decorated, clean, open and nice. Servers are friendly but the food is of low quality and bland. I have had a lot better meal at a take out stand.

Dear Bill G, That is quite a review. I would personally like to hear what you are specifically not happy with as you didn't mention even one item. We use fresh ingredients, as many as possible locally sourced. Food is prepared fresh each day and has won multiple awards. It is true if you are most happy with take out... More

For the past 7 years now, when i am in Machias, ME i eat at Helen's. The owners Julie and David are wonderful hosts and they make you feel like you are family. The food is great and plentiful. We have not dined at Helen's for years - just because we are rarely in this area. Very good fried scallops at a fair price. The wife had fried clams - they were tasty and fresh. Wait staff was attentive and personable and the beer was cold.
