My only complaint was the house salad was bitter greens. Mom had the ribeye which was cooked perfectly I had the jambalaya which was seasoned perfectly! Our waitress Iliza was wonderful!

Fried oysters with potato wedges and a fresh crisp salad...washed down with my favorite Colorado beer, Fat Tire. What's not to like? The food was nicely prepared, and the service was good. I thought the prices were bit high so deducted a star. But we'll...More

Ride to Chesapeake City is always nice but Schaefer's was a great experience today. Waterfront dining outside, great seafood selections, soups, and appetizers. I ordered the seafood tower which is layers of crabmeat, lobster, shrimp, avocado, mango salsa. Fresh and very good. The rock fish...More

I was here for lunch and had the crab cakes. WOW! I usually judge a seafood restaurant by their crab cakes and can SAFELY recommend this place for them. My suggestion is to stop by for a beer and a crab cake. But all the...More

I remember Schaefer's Canal House back in the 70s. It was a 5-star restaurant at that time complete with linen tablecloths and the waiters wore tuxs. Well, time sure has change everything. Today, it is a family-style restaurant, and while the view is still nice...More

We randomly got off the highway and searched for a crab place, and were lucky to find Schaefer's! My teenager and I enjoyed every moment of a Feb. spring-like day eating outside on the patio, facing the water and bridge. The food was excellent...the best...More

Lots of locals hang here...basic food, nothing fancy. Service is usually good. Beautiful location and great scenery.

The easiest way is to follow Google Map on your phone. If you don't have a smart phone I would take DE 1 to route 40 West. Stay on Route 40 until MD 213 and turn left/South. Follow that for about 5 miles. Just before you... More
Some 40 years ago I would make an annual summer visit to a Canal House restaurant a short drive from Neward , Delaware while visiting the univ of Delaware for summer seminars. I recall they announced the boats traveling through the canal and what the were carrying. And the food was very good. Is this the same place, i. e. the one that announced the boats?
