It's very nice to got to a restaurant that's proud to showcase their national cuisine, and the Portuguese cuisine featured at Tavira has a lot to be proud of because it's fresh, delicious and very varied. I had lunch at Tavira yesterday and there was a group of ten of us. So, we had a chance to sample and share... More

My husband and I have often enjoyed the excellent food and service at Tavira. Located on the lower level of a bank building, the restaurant is beautifully decorated and well managed. There also is a private dining room for 8-10 people.

I had the great fortune to have lived in Portugal for 4 years. A small country with a distinct history and culture which includes the cuisine, which is heavily oriented to seafood. Absolutely integral is bacalhau, dried salt cod, which is an acquired taste, and a whole lot of squid. Tavira does a good job of presenting the range of... More

We were with three other couples who dine out several times a year. The restaurant is conveniently located in the lower floor of a small office building, and so offers free covered parking --- VERY convenient for the crowded restaurant scene in Bethesda. The restaurant entrance opens right off the garage, which is a little unusual. There is a fairly... More

The meal was perfect, the atmosphere peaceful and the service excellent. One of the very few old fashioned restaurant which cater to the client. Thank you so kindly. With appreciation.

Great food and service. Pricey but nice for a romantic getaway. Parking garage is right behind the restaurant.

This review actually reports on two visits to Tavira in the past two weeks. Ben and Mrs Too had heard tales that their building might be torn down as part of a very ambitious development plan for their entire block as well as many properties across the avenue from them. Happily, Pepe, our excellnt and very knowledgeable server, was able... More

In the ground floor of an office building...the entrance opens up to a quaint, friendly dining experience. The expansive menu has something for everyone. If you love Spanish food you will enjoy your evening. We ordered a bottle of Portuguese wine from their VERY reasonable wine list. The grilled calamari was very tender. Caesar salad was fine, and the caprese... More

The noise level of this dining room allows you to have a comfortable conversation.I especially enjoy the mussels appetizer and the mixed seafood main course, but all the fish dishes have been excellent. So few restaurants know how to prepare fish, so this is my focus when I dine here. The creme brulee is generous and tasty. Their prix fixe.menu... More

Description
Duarte Rebolo was born in Madeira Island, Portugal, a popular European tourist spot. His career in restaurant service began there and so far has spanned about 25 years. He left Madeira to work for Celebrity Cruise Lines. It was here that he worked with world renowned Grand Chef Michel Roux. It was here that he met his wife Linda, and decided to move to the Washington area. While here in Washington, he worked at The Water Gate Hotel with Jean Louis Pallidin until Jean Louis Left. At this point the Pallidin became Aquarelle and the Chef was Robert Weidemaier. Duarte continued to work at The Watergate until his dream of opening his own restaurant came true. Tavira opened in November of 1999. The cuisine is primarily traditional Portuguese, as well as Mediterranean dishes. It has been given favorable reviews from the Washington Post, Washington Diplomat, The Gazette, Bethesda Magazine and Washingtonian Magazine 100 Very Best Restaurants. Duarte's professionalism, attention to detail and hard work will make you Dining experience a deligtful virtual escape to Portugal
