This restaurant suffers from a big problem. The food is quite good. Everything else, however, fails to measure up, so much so, that the food experience gets diminished. Service is attentive yet somehow still manages to be strangely cold and unfriendly. The biggest issue that...makes me not want to return after several visits is the environment and overall ambiance. This is not a comfortable space in any sense. The tables are small and the dining room lacks any form of warmth or comfort — it feels like an afterthought, which is a shame given the fact the the kitchen is trying to create something wholly different. On my last visit, the restaurant was mostly empty yet my party of two was sat at a tiny table butted up against a grease-splattered wall installation — not comfy or particularly appetizing. I suggest the chef/owner sit at this table and try to enjoy a meal. The kitchen is lighted in an absurdly bright light in contrast to the low lit dining room. Facing the kitchen is not comfortable on the eyes. It feels to me that the guests are secondary or maybe even third in priorities in this restaurant. Everyone that works there seems to be less than thrilled...true on each visit. What a pity.More

Pizzeria inferno is simply not good enough food for their prices and faux exclusivity (they "run out of dough" when they have decided to stop trying for the evening). The owner is very hostile and the service is extremely slow. Don't eat here, it isn't...worth it.More

No question that Chef Conte makes one of the best Napoletana pizzas in the U.S. I've had several varieties and have never been disappointed. It may not be generally known that twice a month or so the restaurant is closed for pizzas and the Chef...offers a special dinner evening at which he presents several courses of very inventive and tasty dishes. Wine pairings are available. My wife and I attended one in May and we enjoyed the food very much. We recommend it; however, we will not be returning soon. The food was excellent but the service was too leisurely and the ambience and noise of a pizza parlor hardly merited the price -- $350 for two was a bit high for far off Darnestown. Just my opinion.More

This is the best pizza ever! I LOVE the crust, and the ingredients are so clearly of the highest quality. My favorite is the Marinara Rustica, my mother’s is the black truffle, my husband’s is the potato and onion (we add Calabrian chiles to it),...and my dad’s is the margherita! Which is great, because we order one of each every time we order and share. I’ve never had the chance to eat-in, but I can tell you that, even after the 20 minute drive home, the pizzas are all super super delicious. I was disappointed that some people were writing reviews and clearly completely missing the point and best parts of the pizza. Pizza dough is SUPER hard to make, and the level at which this crust is made superb. Please keep this place popular!!! I want to keep eating it!More

I think a lot of reviewers before me got it right. There is a heavy priority on the dough and less so on the pizza. That results in more of a tasty bread than a pizza itself. There was minimal sauce or cheese to otherwise...comment on and much of the bread is purposefully burnt. Unfortunately, even as the owner would admit, placing this “pizza” in a cardboard box (due to covid takeout policies) results in a lot of soggy bread. If only they could somehow vent it or just include oven reheat instructions. But, as it seems they do not care too much about new business given their level of success, I think I’ll skip a second chance dining in with them.More

Inferno is the best Neapolitan pizza restaurant anywhere! A wonderful and cozy space great for the whole family. Regular menu consists of apps, pizza and desserts. Craft beer and fantastic wines! At certain times of the month, Chef showcases his talent with tasting menu dinner,...or pasta nights. There is always a line and they close when the dough runs out! Highly recommend.More

I’ll drive a fair distance for a good Margherita pizza; so imagine my excitement at hearing WaPo’s #1 pick just around the corner. They offer one size which is $13 for a personal 10” pizza that it mostly bread (65% of the total area is...crust). You are paying mostly for bread (which is no doubt tasty), but it might be okay if the rest of the pizza was worth eating. The tomatoes lack flavor, the cheese as well is not of the best quality, and the basil is minimal. The dough on its own does well but just doesn’t hold up to the toppings resulting in a soggy mess underneath. Maybe they should open a bread store instead? If you want great pizza, go to Coalfire in Kentlands; or for a really awesome Neopolitan pizza, Roscoe’s in Takoma Park shouldn’t be missed. (Wait for it... wait for it....I’m fully expecting a sarcastic “Hi, how are you?” from the manager in response to this review. Nearly every negative review is followed by this response.)More

This is a small gourmet style pizza. Do not expect a typical pizza. Ingredients are special and good. It is a very busy place and will require long waits even for ordering take out. Can be an hour or more to wait for a table...on the weekend. Close quarters in a small dining room. Lots of noise. May be best to try for a take out for a first time -- takes a while to get through on the phone. If you like it, and want to wait for seating, try going for dinner.More

I'd read about Inferno and had it on my list to try so we headed down on a Thursday night at 5:00 hoping to beat the crowds. Lots of available tables so we were seated right away. This is a place in a strip shopping...plaza. We ordered the roasted cauliflower appetizer. Not my cup of tea. I ordered a margarita pizza and my three companions ordered other different pizzas. My 11" pizza was mostly crust with about 6 inches diameter of actual pizza toppings. I would say 2 to 2 1/2" of crust all the way around and about 2" high. Definitely good crust but way too much of it. I just felt like I was eating and eating crust and not enjoying much margarita flavor. For sure it's better than Domino's and other chain places, but I've had better napolitano pizza. Even in Italy, I never had that much crust on a pizza. When we left at about 6:30 every table was taken and it was LOUD. So go early if you want a quiet meal. :)More

I heard this was the place for pizza. I loved the cauliflower but it was a very small portion and expensive. The pizza was burnt on 2/3 of the crust and made the pizza taste burnt. I tried to not eat the burnt part but...it was too much of the crust. The flavor of the margarita pizza was pretty plain. I wanted to add some seasoning but there was none on the table. The Pizza is great at Inferno. The service is outstanding. The salads, appetizers, and beverages are well thought out, fresh and ever changing. But don't miss a chance to experience Supper Club when Chef Tony and his team flex their culinary muscles to plan, prepare...and perfectly serve their fresh, delicious and completely satisfying tasting menu. The October fare includedFluke Sashimi, Egg yolk ravioli, Foie Gras Terrine, Madai, Wagyu Beef and an Almond brown butter apple cake. The wine pairing was top shelf and the service was excellent. We were told by a friend that this was an excellent pizza restaurant. We had heard that this can happen, so we decided to go early. They are open from 5-9 on Sunday, we drove an hour and arrived at 7, two hours before closing....We were promptly turned around. Seems to me that should have a better handle on their traffic and be able to make enough dough. If it means making a little more and throwing out 5 balls of dough, how much could that cost $5?More

Inferno is widely praised, so out-of-towners wanted to visit; we had a big group, multiple generations (restaurant is quite noisy—not great for conversation.) Called, and they recommended we arrive at 4:45 pm, which we did (for 5 pm opening). Given they know how crowded it...is, wish they did more to consider their guests with a sign-up sheet outside or something to provide more order for the people waiting. Maybe it’s more orderly when it's not 100F and people are scattered trying to stand in whatever shade there is. As it was, once the doors opened, it was a mass and not in "first there" order. (The restaurant was filled with the first wave, except for 3 tables of 2, with people waiting, so it's very popular.) Water/drinks were delivered quickly, but our order wasn't taken until 5:30 pm; again, maybe because we were such a big group; seems they got the smaller tables orders in first, which would make sense. We tried 4 kinds of pizza: the Margherita, Oven Roasted Potato & Onion, Wood Roasted Eggplant and Meatball. The toppings are all quality ingredients, and I actually liked the eggplant best—slightly spicy—delish. I’m just not a fan of “char”—it just tastes burned to me. One of the basil leaves on the Margherita had the misfortune of straying onto the crust, where it was incinerated, flavorless. Yes, the edges are puffed and blackened, but the middle of our pies were quite wet. Not sure if it’s condensation from cooling after being in the wood oven, or are the bottoms in the center not supposed to be crispy? Glad we tried it, but just not for me.More

Per suggestion of a friend, we arrived early before their opening time of 5:00 p.m. There were already several people waiting outside when we arrived. I talked to several people in line and learned how good the pizzas are at this restaurant. They did not...mind waiting outside on a hot, humid summer day. We ordered Yellow wax beans for our appetizer, Margherita Pizza, and Pizza with meat balls. For our desserts, we had Strawberry Soft Serve and Angel Food Cake. All these foods were very delicious, however serving sizes were on the small side. Total cost of these foods was about $60.00 plus tip. There were some burnt parts of the crust of our pizzas. We simply removed them and proceeded eating out delicious pizzas that had prosciutto, with the other one had meatballs. They both had flavorful cheese and tomato sauce. The staff were very friendly, helpful, and efficient. Our table was consistently cleared and our drinks were timely refilled. For 44 seats at this restaurant, there were about 7 wait staff assisting diners. Impressive! Tips: Come early to avoid the long wait outside! Opening time is 5:00 p.m., closing time is when it runs out of dough for pizza-making. Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.More
