We live in a town near Gloucester, when we want a go to great meal and on those occasions a late meal, this is where we go. Oysters are always fresh, cold and great. Fresh bread with hummus served while waiting. Well mixed drinks. Seasonal menus provide change but some favorites are always available. Staff is knowledgeable and attentive but... More

We have been 3 times and each time we wait about 6 months before trying again. Great atmosphere, but service and food is not outstanding. There are just too many other places I would go.. and their wine prices are higher for the same wine than most places on the north shore... skip it and go to Tonno for atmosphere... More

I've been visiting the Franklin for 15+ years, and it has been one of my favorites in the area since then. They offer 2 stories of dining (upstairs weekends only) and offer a vibe that's different from anything else in the area. If you plan your visit right, and it is on the menu, you MUST order the sashimi tuna.... More

Gloucester has three or four excellent restaurants by any standard. The Franklin is clearly one of them. First, the oysters - cold and fresh, generall from Cape Cod, with a standard red horseradish sauce that happens to be my favorite. There is a list of wonderful salads, never heavy or overdone. The butternut squash soup sent one of my dinner... More

We have actually eaten here several times over the years when we travel to Rockport to visit friends. The atmosphere is friendly and on the weekend they have a jazz trio. The food is nicely prepared and presented, and we've never been disappointed by the quality. My wife and I each had the asparagus salad and the Ahi Tuna Special,... More

There are many great restaurants in Gloucester but The Franklin is right up there as our all-time favorite. Being bar-dwellers, we love the dark, romantic ambience-the Jeff Weaver paintings, the excellent service provided by Stefano, and the fabulous food. On the regular menu the pan-roasted cod is supremely good. If the tuna is on special, it's amazing. We have never... More

Attentive and pleasant servers. Outstanding burger with blue cheese and special sauce. Fries were top notch, too! Jazz band was great but it is really loud and tough to hear your party. Would not recommend for intimate dinner because of this reason but fun for friends.

We had an amazing dinner, 4 adults for an evening out. The waitress was superb, constantly tending to our needs. The wine list was fabulous and we had two bottles at the table. For appetizers we had the marinated shaved bruschetta, seafood mac and cheese and lobster dumplings. All amazing and so delicious! For dinner we had the panko crusted... More

Had a wonderful dinner at Franklin Cafe Cape Ann this past weekend. Let me start by saying front of house staff are great. From the person who took the reservation to the hostess and our waitperson, they were all top notch, kind considerate and attentive. Reservations highly recommended or take your chances, not an empty table when we arrived and... More
