What an amazing place. The food was so delicious. Portions are very big, staff couldn't have been more friendly and accommodating. Food was very tasty. Had Ribs/Mac and Cheese/Burnt Ends Brisc. Highly recommend this restaurant. Not a huge place, but well worth the visit.

Family was in town for one night. And we picked this place gromTripAdvisor. The food was fantastic! My daughter who is a picky eater wasn't crazy about what she got. The owner came over and said don't worry about it we'll get something get her something else and made her something that wasn't on the menu which she loved I... More

There is nothing better than a bbq lunch, burnt ends specifically, to make your day. And this is the place to get it...and with a bar carrying all the top craft beers there's just nothing better. A feast not to be missed. Takeout works too, did that last week, tough to sit in the car though with that delicious aroma... More

We arrived for dinner and found out we were the only ones since most of the patrons remained at the bar. I had the ribs which were 'fair' my wife had the french dip which was 'horrendous'; a piece of brisket, cheesed, and dip. It was just 'not good'

Was staying in Winthrop and found this gem! They do food late, even on a Sunday. The atmosphere is great, definitely created by the amazing staff who had us in stitches. Midrange prices but generous portions and the food tasted great. Keep up the good work guys!

Really bad from the start. No fried green tomatoes for an appetizer, onion rings tasted ok but the breading fell off half the order. No mashed potatoes as a side. Service was slow, though friendly. Pulled pork sandwich was dry, tasteless. Brisket was good, moist, decent portion. Sides were disappointing. Spicy Asian slaw was neither. Sweet potato salad was bland,... More

Barbecue is a labor of love! The process of cooking is slow, often taking a whole day to cook certain proteins. Long cooking time is ideal for large cuts of meats and meats with a lot of connective tissue because it allows time for the tissues to break down, making it much more tender. Heat is low and indirect and uses smoldering logs of wood or charcoal to add a smoky flavor to the meat. The smoke is hot enough to smolder, but not hot enough to burn. At blackstrap bbq we use hard wood, which consists mostly of oak, but many types of wood can be used. Chef chris thompson, and partner kate economides, opened blackstrap bbq in october 2010. The two met while working together at the legendary east coast grill, in cambridge, ma and have since formed a partnership through their love for good, old-fashioned, all-american barbecue. Enjoy life + enjoy bbq!
