The Potluck Boskombuis is a wonderful place to stop, tucked away inba small valley next to a river. The food was exceptional and so was the service. We really had a good feast and thoroughly enjoyed the surroundings.

6 of us arrived after reserving a table at 13.00 to find they had run out of every dish except two choices of steak, no sides available except carrots, pap and potatoes salad. I realize this place is remote but if you commit to running an eating establishment you really should have food available. The venue is stunning but I... More

A delicious late lunch in a perfect location. After driving along a dirt track off the main highway we came upon an idyllic location. The staff were friendly and helpful. With the sound of running water we ate bobotie and rooibos tea. It's a must visit. I hear they are building some accommodation...I would love to spend a couple of... More

Located in a remote spot along traveling from three rondavels down the route you will find this little gem hidden away. Having no electricity doesn't stop them from service some of the best food of our trip. Just note only cash no card machine available. The scenic surrounding makes up for that 100 time over. They offer a natural play... More

What a wonderful experience - so absolutely nestled in the bush next to a clean and strong flowing river. You could smell Africa at its best!! Food is basic and typical South African. Ambience excellent! Little wooden tables greet you in the shadows of overhanging rocks. The kettle is already boiling - get some strong coffee - in Afrikaans "Boeretroos"... More

We had a lovely relaxed lunch here. We struggled to make a booking, not because it was full but because when we finally managed to get through to the restaurant, they indicated that they prefer not to take bookings at the moment due to the lack of cell phone reception at the venue. Luckily it was out of season so... More

The place was recommended to us and we went to try them out. The way food is prepared without electricity reminded me of my growing up days. The food was very lovely, the rustic setting is amazing. The view is out of this world.

Calm, relaxing riverside spot, great shaded place to sit and relax. When we arrived none of the other guests were eating and, since we weren't super hungry and since the food looked a little overpriced, we just settled on drinks. Drink prices were reasonable, beers and ciders were cold, and staff was responsive.

Stumbled on this place and was taken with the rustic setting on the river. Good SA fare with helpful staff. If you want to eat in the bush this is the place. The road in is quite rough but easy enough to negotiate even with a small car. The owner is enthusiastic about it and rightly so.

We have had two amazing visits to Potluck Bosbombuis and hope we will be returning in the near future. The setting, food and staff are fantastic and I am dreaming of the Bobotie and Koeksisters as I write this! Well done on a well run restaurant that is simple and satisfying in every respect. Just remember to take cash as... More

Description
The word is out on the town and this little "Boskombuis" is creating wonders and just doing something completely different. Welcomed at the humble boma entrance you are escorted into an unforgettable traditional South African dining experience combined with the most splendid views and lazy, no-rush ambiance. Tucked right up against a gigantic round boulder, is a log fire where most of the food is prepared. To the front, pulling the children with an unseen magnetism, is the Treur river, with its crystal clear water, gently flowing a mere stone's throw away from the dining area. The menu itself is short and to the point, with open flame grilled steaks taking the centre stage. Apparently local "potjie" specialities are prepared over weekends. You need to plan a little in advance, the weather can change easily in this part of the world...do take some warm clothes or a blanket. Potluck Boskombuis has no credit card facilities or mobile phone coverage, take enough cash to cater for a blissful outdoor experience that will leave everlasting memories and make one want to visit again and again....
