Our guide book advised that restaurants outside the Khiva city walls were much better value and so it proved. The Rustamboy is just outside the main gate and you place your order at the counter and they bring it to your table. The food was excellent local fare and very inexpensive.

This canteen serves classical Ouzbek food, Plov is OK despite little meat in the rice. For those who want to see typical local food this is OK, for others who want better standards don't try you'll be disappointed. Well located by the way and inexpensive

Mostly locals eat here. The food is okay, it arrives fast and it's cheap. I wouldn't recommend running here during lunchtime to get the plov though, it's mostly rice with two small pieces of meat and that's it. There's one person who speaks Russian, rest of the staff don't really. I guess you won't get by with English.

This restaurant is just outside the main gate of the old city of Khiva, and is therefore convenient to several hotels. Three of us were traveling together and stopped here for a late lunch on our last day. It was terrible. The food was badly prepared, the bread must have been two or three days old because it was as... More

We had a good plov at this restaurant during lunch. It is not s easy to get this national rice dish in Khiva in the winter, when most restaurants are close. It was freezing in December and the Chaikhana restaurant was insufficient heated to go there back for a leisurely diner.

Local food at great prices. Good service and a good place to interact with the friendly locals. Location is also good as it is situated outside just the main gates.

Compared to other chaikanas we tried in Samarkand and Bukhara, this one had very average soup, stale bread and just OK samsas. Price was 21500 sum for that and a coke and tea. The only good point was a commanding view of five successive wedding processions. Maybe we'll try the shashlik another day.

Nice local place conveniently located, owner speaks good English, food very good (we had manty, shashlik, salad and bread with meat inside), prices very reasonable compared to other places, esp inside city walls, only point i would have is cleanliness, glasses and cups do urgently need to be washed...

If you like to eat with the locals rather than with the tourists in Khiva, this is the place to go. Perfectly located just outside the main gate to the old town. Authentic Uzbek food for a very modest price. A warning: authentic Uzbek also means rather greasy. But very tasty! Best lagman (noodle soup) I've had in 2 weeks... More
