Would recommend this fast-food restaurant to anyone who enjoys good seafood meals. I liked the fresh taste of the fish fillets I selected and the side dishes add a nice touch. The casual atmosphere makes it super for both couples and families.

Great atmosphere for a family and quick service. We had the whitefish but felt our meal was average.

I haven't found a perch dinner that I like better than at Scalawags, comes with French frys coleslaw and a couple hush puppies. My favorite place to go for fish in Traverse

The fish and fries at Scalawags are pretty good. The location is a block off of Front Street, so it's generally less crowded. It's basic, solid food with friendly staff - a good family value. Fountain drinks are self serve.

We stopped in here with some friends. This is a great place for whitefish. The seating area is small, the restrooms are large, and the decorations are fish, fishing, outboard motors, nets, etc. Their whitefish is locally caught, and they clean it and remove the bloodlines in their own kitchen. If you like fish this is a great place to... More

The fish was outstanding! They're happy to accommodate your preferences, and their menu is reasonably priced. I asked for three kinds of fish for lunch and they happily provided. The fish chowder was delicious too. It's clean and the perfect atmosphere for a local fish place. The service was friendly and welcoming. This is a not-to-miss place while you're in... More

The whitefish sandwich took a long, long time to make. When I finally got it, the bun was completely tasteless and the fish was soggy and also somewhat tasteless. The french fries were good as was the coleslaw. It was very fresh. Maybe just the fried fish is better than the sandwiches. I also thought it was kind of expensive... More

My husband and I tried the lake trout and white fish and chips. The fish tasted fresh but it wasn't well-seasoned. The fries were pretty disappointing; I usually like thicker-cut chips with my fish. The hush puppies were not that flavorful, and the coleslaw was just okay. It's not a must-visit, but if you want to try the local catch... More

Every time we head to northwest Michigan, our first meal is always at Scalawags. We generally have the white fish sandwich special (grilled) with cup of soup. The white fish chowder is good, but like the asiago asparagus soup even better!! On our tri, the first week of October, they had lake trout from Beaver Island. We had it grilled... More

1. Ambiance cute with fishing gear decor 2. Food not good. Baked white fish soggy with fishy taste & smell 3. French Fries overcooked / hard 4. Prices average $15-$18 per person 5. You enter and go to counter to order, server brings food out & you do your own busing by emptying plates into garbage can. 6. For price... More
