My wife and I called in for lunch having seen the pub/restaurant advertised by a sign on the main Hungerford to Marlboro road. Despite the fact that there was limited choice of beer, ie, no draught ales at all, the atmosphere of the sofas around a log fire was pleasant if a little unusual in that it felt more like... More

I booked the Red Lion for Christmas Day lunch for 4 people, around 6 weeks prior, admittedly this could be perceived as short notice. At £65 per head, you would expect a reasonable lunch and service but unfortunately it fell short on both parts. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a Gentleman who took our coats and offered us a... Our friends chose this attractive pub as they had stopped by before. We were made to feel most welcome on a Monday lunchtime when they were obviously less busy than during a busy weekend. When we asked if we could choose from the festive menu the landlord said that he could put together something similar which was great and this... More

We've dropped in here a few times over the years after walking in the area. It is always a comfortable place with a log fire and settees. Sadly there were no beers on tap only bottles due to such low business lately according to the barman but they were decent ales. Joined by the resident Russian blue cat who is... More

I've passed this pub many many times, and knew of its past reputation as a Sunday lunch venue, so expected great things when my daughter booked a table for a family meal for 6 using her Gourmet Club membership. A nice welcome, with the fire stoked and drinks served in the sofa-ed area of the bar but very strange in... More

We called in at the Red Lion after attempting and failing to get lunch at the Pelican Inn in Froxfield. I suspect that the owner was about to close, but nevertheless he made us sandwiches specially which we ate in the lovely garden. Nothing appeared to be too much trouble. The family was very friendly and helpful.

Visited with friends on a warm sunny weekday, charming looking place, (interesting WW2 glider memorial in car park) all looked promising. We were the only ones there, offered a table but we chose a drink at the bar first and peruse of the menu. We chose sausage and mash, cod and chips, fishcakes and two scampis. Ordered drinks and sat... More

This pub is in a beautiful setting. It is such a shame everything else is a let down. It is in serious need of some TLC. The artex ceilings and drab dark brown paint needs replacing. I thought the food was average. My starter of goats cheese and beetroot salad had no beetroot. My main was oven baked trout. And... More

Decided to "give it a go," despite the reviews. Sorry to say, it was everything previously endured by other reviewers and more! Whilst the elderly gentleman is very polite, the service was soooooooooooooooooooo slow and the (choice of one) draught beer completely manky! A pint of (undrinkable) ale plus half a (flat) lager, came to almost £9.00! Apparently, they had... More

From the road this looks a perfectly nice pub. But we stopped there for a quick lunch while our son was having post match tea with his hockey club. The wine (Sauvignon Blanc) tasted odd, the food (chicken, ham and leek pie) took ages to appear and when it did, it was covered with a thin brown gravy and the... More
