Excellent service, great prices and where the locals go

This diner is lower than the street and it wasn’t was easy to figure out how to get into the parking lot, but it was so busy that obviously no one else had trouble. I had the catfish plate and the salad, then the entree arrived quickly. I was in a hurry and couldn’t have been happier. The salad was crisp and fresh, the entree hot and tasty. I can’t say enough about the excellent service by my waitress. I’ve eaten in a lot of diners across the US and this one was super clean by comparison to most. Will definitely return.

We ordered a ham and cheese croissant, grilled ham and cheese, appetizer sampler and fried chicken salad. The two sandwhiches were great. French fries very good. Salad was blah and the apps were okay. My kids were two of the diners and we didn’t order off the kids menu. Their menu is huge.

We stopped here for breakfast and upon arriving we locked our keys in the car. We go inside and the waitress sees us all jumbled. We tell her what’s going on and she instantly offered up her husband who could help. She then asked a regular customer if he could help and he said sure, this stuff happens. We ordered the cinnamon swirl French toast, it was so good! The gyro skillet also very good, and some side orders. The staff was very friendly, food was hot and delicious. Only downfall I would say is it’s chilly inside. We liked the place so much we went back the next day for brunch. We also got sat next to the man and woman who helped us the day before! Made us feel at home

Compares to great NJ Diners

Love this place. Reminds me of the many NJ Diners that are so great. Expansive menu and super service. Huge BLT with turkey. Flavorful beef barley soup. Large portions. Hard to pass by the case with the many pies and cakes without enjoying. Don’t miss.

Good Old Fashioned Dining

This place is so good! The atmosphere is one of just good ole family dining. The food, we had breakfast was very good! Such a clean place with a welcoming staff! Our son was accepted into dental school in Kirksville so we will definitely be back!

So Colton’s across the street was super packed and we detoured to dinner 54. It was me , my adult daughter and my two grandchildren 7&9. It was my daughter’s birthday and my treat. It was crowded , It being a Friday at 6pm but the wait was short. The kids ordered a large Mickey Mouse pancake, which they enjoyed. I ordered the French dip and my daughter ordered the country fried steak with white gravy. And side of fries and dinner came with side salad and rolls. Salad acceptable as were the rolls. The wait was 25 “minutes for salad rolls and the kids and I got our entree in another 15 but my daughters was 15 minutes after ours and Luke warm. As was mine. And the beef was spoiled on my French dip but I didn’t make a deal out of it because the dinner was about my daughter and grandchildren Her meal was so late I waited on hers to eat we traded bites halfway through and she spate mine out and hers was cold and had no flavor what so ever. Kids were antsy due to delay…..worst 80 bucks I ever spent and ours was left on table uneaten. Stick with breakfast items

Staff food & service were all good!! Will be back.

I was in Kirksville for a week and ate there a few times. Great breakfasts, (cinnamon French toast/eggs/bacon) and the Monte Cristo was good. Nice portion sizes. Staff were all friendly and service was wonderful!

It's just OK

Many locals go here and it's OK. Good but not great in terms of service and food. Nothing we had was bad and nothing was great. Great in terms of wanting to go back and have it again.

Food and service was very good. I had the gyro & my husband had the catfish filet. Not expensive at all . Portions weren't skimpy at all. Breakfast looked SO SO good.

Hot, meaty, golden! Best i have had for years bat a diner or anywhere else for that matter. Service was attentive and reasonably quick. Wish i lived there for I could return!

Perfect Breakfast location

A large group of us stopped at 54 dinner after a wedding in Iowa. Location was central, establishment was clean and food prices were reasonable. Our waitress was amazing and the food was perfect. Biscuits and gravy were fabulous.
