Have never written an online review before but felt compelled to do so after visiting Metropolitan Grill and meeting our server, Kari. Overall a fantastic experience. Kari provided great recommendations and impeccable, friendly service, including warm chocolate chip cookies for dessert. She suggested we try the fried spinach appetizer, which was delicious, as was the rest of the meal. Highly recommend this restaurant!

I was spending the night in Springfield and drove by this restaurant and the parking lot was jam packed. Good sign right! It was a Wednesday and the place was hopping! I sat at the bar and was greeted by a friendly, great server named Matt. He gave me a taste of a couple of local beers on tap so I could decide which one I wanted. I ordered just an appetizer for dinner called "Dad" which was fantastic! Cast Iron baked ground ribeye meatballs stuffed with mozzarella topped with Gorgonzola supreme, roasted garlic red sauce. All served on a serving board with crostini and slices of blue cheese. To die for!! This is a higher end menu, but the food and service from all the staff was excellent!! Can't say enough about it.

I took my fiancée here for her birthday, hoping to give her something special, and metro grill didn’t disappoint. The quality of food was exceptional—especially the bread— but what really elevated the experience was the personal and upbeat approach from our server, Kari. I’ll definitely return any time I’m looking to create a memorable day.

Worst Restaurant Experience of my Life

I've been to Metro several times the last 4-5 years and the service and food has been wonderful. However, during my last visit, while having a business dinner, I had the worst experience I've had at a restaurant in my life. And for background, I am a sales management professional, I cover four states and I've eaten at several high-end restaurants in my lifetime with many clients, family and friends. Last Wednesday, I ordered the sous-vide New York strip. On the menu, the steak was supposed to be cooked at 136° (slightly under medium). However, when I cut into my steak and noticed it was well done, medium well plus at best. Not wanting to send the food back, I tried to eat it. But the more I cut into the meat, the harder it became to eat because it was so chewy. At this time, I let the waitress know that I would like to return the meat, but I did not want an entire steak, I just want to have a steak cooked properly. In fact, the only reason I returned the steak was because one of the people I was with, a regular at Metro, said the owner would want to know that a new item on the menu was not cooked properly. The waitress returned with the new steak. Upon looking at the steak, it was obvious that the steak was barely cooked on either side and look like raw tuna in the middle. At this point, I was pretty frustrated and asked the waitress to get me a salad so that I could leave the restaurant immediately. Also at this point, I saw the owner of the restaurant, Pat, looking at the entire interaction I had with the waitress. She then walked up to him and apparently told him what I said about the under cooked steak. He then proceeded to yell at me from the bar area and insinuate I didn't know what a good steak was. He then stared at me while he cut into the steak and ate it as he told me how good it was to him. And for some reason, he was extremely agitated throughout the interaction. I would venture to say if my name was Clay or Bob instead of Carlos, this may not have happened. But that's purely conjecture on my part. As a professional and a customer, I never expect this type of treatment. And for that reason, I will never give another penny to this establishment.

Crazy good!

Stopping here by chance late one evening 15 years ago, we never forgot the delicious food and vowed to find it again if we could. Made a slight detour when going across country so it was close enough to stop. Amazed at how it has grown but the experience was just as terrific. Our server brought Pat, the owner, right to our table when we told her how we came to be there...wish we could have just spent the evening there with him. Did a few small plates of wonderful flavor, design, appeal. Could have had one of everything on that menu! Found the interaction among the staff very interesting. All were efficient (got there at 3:00 just as they opened so watched set-up) and worked very well together, all seeming to be friends. Liked their appearance: all black, well-groomed. welcoming. Seating is clectic with all options: high-tops, booths, tables, a separate room, bar. Something for everyone. Obviously popular with the locals as many guests were greeted by name. Wished we lived closer!

Worthy of a Michelin Star!

If you find yourself passing through Springfield, MO, be sure to stop by the Metropolitan Grill. This delightful restaurant will be sure to please with excellent service and quality. Similar dining experiences in bigger cities will easily be triple the cost and half the portions. My wife and I chose to sample a course of 5 appetizers paired with tastefully mixed cocktails. The Flash Fried Spinach was a perfect start, light and fresh with a garnish of Parmesan cheese followed with the Yoshon Jen Sushi. The most pleasant surprise was the creative application of balsamic glazes in three varieties which resulted in completely different, but excellent flavor profiles. The first was the Fitch Tuna with Siracha, a little spicy, yet nicely contrasted with sweet balsamic . The second was the Yoakum: beef tips topped with a caramelized glaze (ask for Gouda mashed potatoes with this!). The last item turned out to be the most pleasant surprise — the Shahasome. This Brie goat cheese filled pastry was topped with chicken and prosciutto in sauce with a balsamic drizzle and apple garnish. The rich bouquet of flavor was homey, sweet and savory all in one. Strike Chicago fine dining from the priority list and venture a little further south to Springfield’s Metropolitan Grill, you’ll leave satisfied and more than full.

We went for a birthday dinner..... excellent service from opening the door when we arrived to opening the door when we left. The wait staff Jay was wonderful , attentive but not overbearing, made excellent suggestions and spot on . The menu has a wide variety of unique items. We had steak and lamb both EXCELLENT . The menu changes every couple of months so we are going to go back to try some more before they are gone. Excellent value

We really wanted to fall in love with this place. My husband had the steak. I had the lamb. I love lamb. The lamb was not seasoned and was bland even with the sauce on it. It was also tough. His steak was also underseasoned. When you have steaks on the menu for $64 a pop, your seasoning has to be on point. When the lamb is roughly $40 it also better be on point. The waitress was great. The highlight of the menu was the desserts.

Food was good, Ambience was great, Service terrible!! Our server came after 20 minutes, took over forty five minutes to bring food. He did not come to check in on us. We asked someone else to take the plates and bring us the cheque.. we can see him chilling in the corner, and its been a good twenty minutes. Not returning.

After a relaxing day exploring the antique shops of Ozark we satisfied our appetites at the Metropolitan Grill. Dining area was tastefully decorated and set the mood for delicious food. An attentive hostess and waiter added to what was a delightful experience.

If long periods of no service, and bland food is your thing. Come on down. After having eaten here five or so times I thought this was the best in Springfield. And I will go back, so I hope this was just a bad night. But we found it disappointing. Last time we had eaten here was Christmas eve of 2019, it cost me almost a grand. And I was really happy, everything was perfect. We ordered ahead for the Beef Wellington and it just was not the same. The beef was tough and the meal was bland. Desert was just sweet, no flavor. This meal was about a month ago and I've been meaning to post this review. So I don't remember all the details as well now as

Taking COVID Seriously

Rather than the standard review, I want to share my message I sent to management after our meal tonight: Hi, my family and I enjoyed a really nice dinner celebrating my boys’ 21st birthday tonight. For reasons I can’t explain we had not dined at Metro Grill for a few years. While the meal and service were as good or better than I remembered, what struck us most tonight was the excellent execution of protective measures against COVID. From requiring reservations, to well placed clear signage, plexiglass separating tables, proper mask usage by staff, and hand cleaner on every table...It was clear how seriously you were taking the well-being of my family and the other guests. Many places businesses do the bare minimum, or not even that, this was refreshing and very much appreciated. It certainly will be a much shorter interval to our next visit. Thank you. Four of us for dinner before a concert at the Gillioz. The service was outstanding. There the second we needed him, unobtrusive when we didn't. And we ran the poor guy to death, didn't make it easy on him, but he was everywhere all at once. Just great, great service. The food was everything we were hoping for. We started with an appetizer special, stuffed jalapenos. Not enough heat in the peppers, but otherwise so good it should be a regular item. Our son-in-law had some beef cut with potatoes, a standard order for him. Grandson had the kid's steak with fries, then proceeded to devour every morsel. And then ordered dessert after that (chocolate torte) and wolfed it down quick. Deb and I both had pizza so there would be leftovers after the show. Two different ones, both good. The crust is fantastic. For a fine dining place, they are proud of their pizza, and rightfully so. I think you'll be very pleased with the Metropolitan Grill.

This place will always give you a good experience! I reserved a private room for my birthday party, and I would do it again! Dalton, our server, was pleasant and professional and easy to work with. He was so happy and delightful. The food was amazing, and the service was excellent. I dropped the ball on giving them the final headcount, but they added additional seating for two more without a fuss. The owner came in to check on us as well. It was just an overall great experience! Thank you all for making my birthday so special!

Great valentines date spot

We went here as a date for Valentine’s Day. It was awesome! We started with some flash fried baby spinach, which was amazing. I got lamb and my husband got a steak. Both were very good. The atmosphere is very modern and classy, while having a very fun vibe. Our server was great as well.
