First time diners to the Shovel Handle at the end of the ski season. Food was ok but pricey. Kitchen must be a distance from the tri-level barn dining room because chowder arrived cold. Might be worth another visit during ski season next year.

Our second visit to the Shovel Handle and once again very pleased! We both had the Seafood sauté with lobster, scallop and shrimp. It's not a very filling meal but very tasty. You get 2 of each type..served with some rice and a spoonful of vegetables. After a full day of skiing we decided on one of their fabulous desserts!... More

Great live music, friendly bar staff, and great atmosphere. Definitely recommend visiting and is attached to Whitneys Inn, which is a great place to stay if skiing Black Mountain.

We stayed next door at Whitney's Inn on a night where there was a major snow storm so we went mainly for the convenience. I believe this is a popular place for music as well as eating but the band could not play that night due to the snow. We had no real expectations and were pleasantly surprised by the... More

My family and I ate at The legendary Shovel Handle pub after a long day skiing. The atmosphere is rustic and comfy. The food was delicious, especially the steak tips. But what we really really loved was the live acoustic duo JD or something like that. WOW were they awesome. We will be back for the food and music.

We tried this place based on reviews but it was horrible. It's always disappointing to go out for dinner and it not be good, but tonight's dinner was downright terrible. We ordered the spinach artichoke dip and chips which had a lot of grease in the dip, so we didn't finish it. My wife ordered the pulled pork quesedillas which... More

Although we also like to visit The Shannon Door and Wildcat after skiing we generally find we enjoy the food and atmosphere most here.

We loved the multi level interior inside this quaint barn restaurant at the base of Black Mountain! We had a great table on the upper level with a view of the Guitarist, playing from about 6:30 - 9:30; it really added to the atmosphere of this busy establishment! My mixed drink came in a Mason Jar... and was delicious! I... More

This was our second time at this restaurant, the waitstaff were very attentive and friendly. We both enjoyed our meals and would recommend this pub.
