What a wonderful restaurant Mar Belo is. The people there were so pleasant and efficient. The food was phenomenal, and the quality and freshness of everything was top shelf. I am so glad we found this restaurant and plan to be there often. We started...with an order of Chorizo and an order of shrimp and garlic. These appetizers were amazing, and generous. for our entrees we had a Sole in lemon sauce and Paella. The sole was amazing and the Paella was the best ever. Every piece of seafood was so fresh. I got the valenciana Paella which had clams, mussels, squid, lobster, shrimps, scallops, chicken, pork and Chorizo sausage in it. It was delicious and they served with the yellow saffron rice, which was superb. Can't wait to go back again.More

Great Portuguese food. Reminds me of the great places down-neck in Newark, NJ. The sangria kept flowing and the food was awesome. Classics like shrimp in garlic sauce, chourico and calamari. Halibut done perfectly. Nice skirt steaks and a unique Quail special. Finished off with...great espresso and Sambuca! Service was perfect by Jorge. This is definitely now a regular stop for usMore

Great atmosphere and wonderful staff. Got 2 Ribeye on special $32 each with peppercorn sauce. Both undercooked and had to saw thru with the steak knife. I’ve never had a ribeye so tough and both the same. It’s bait and switch or very bad job...picking meat. Third time-just ok meal here and for the price I won’t be back. I think I had steak and shrimp on skewers and the meat was also tough. The fish dishes were better but not great. Some of the appetizers and dishes are likely great but not a steak place. Friend said his last meal was over salty and sauce was mediocre. He won’t go again either. Great people great appetizers poor other stuff so far.More

We visited this restaurant on a Sunday night for a birthday dinner. What a pleasant surprise to find something so nice and relatively close to home, and not to have to drive all the way to Newark. We were seated and served warm bread with...an herb spread butter, yum! We ordered the chourico appetizer as well as calamari, both were delicious. Our entrees consisted of garlic shrimp, shish kebab that consisted of filet mignon and jumbo shrimp (the presentation was very nice!), the lamb chops, and paella. Everything was delicious with good portion sizes as well. The side of vegetables and potatoes...the potatoes are soooo good! They offer a good wine list, delicious sangria, and Portuguese beer. Our wait staff was very professional and pleasant. Since I mentioned on the Open Table reservation that we were celebrating a birthday, they brought the dessert out with a candle and singing - a nice surprise! Priced very reasonably, good service, great food, what more could you ask for?More

Their paella is my personal favorite—topped with lobster, clams, mussels, scallops and more fresh seafood. One pot is more than enough for two adults. The generously sized pork chop is juicy and tender. Finish off your meal with the chocolate cake with Ecuadorian hazelnut...oh my!...You’re welcome!More

Wow, worth finding. Elegant but not expensive. Very carefully prepared foods and cultivated wines. Polished service. Large portions and extremely fresh and flavorful seafood. Lots of small touches like garlic bread for your hot rolls.

My wife and I were in the Monmouth mall and not being from the area were talking about where to have dinner. A woman standing nearby heard us and highly recommended Mar Belo. As we love Portuguese food we came here. The ambiance in the...main dining room is very nice. Our server and the rest of the staff were very attentive throughout our meal. As we were both on medication we skipped the sangria. The shrimp in garlic sauce appetizer was excellent. Good flavor and large shrimp. I ordered the rib steak and my wife ordered the mariscada in green sauce. This was a nice mixture of shellfish with lobster but the lobster was tough. My steak, which I ordered rare, came out raw. Even the outside was hardly seared. When the waiter came over he was very apologetic and took my steak back to have it cooked right. When it came back out it was perfect, tender and tasty. He immediately offered my wife free dessert as she didn’t want to wait for another pice of lobster. Overall the food was good and the service excellent. We will be going back to give the kitchen a second chance.More

We came here for steak night and it was a big hit. It was done to perfection. The side dishes of onion ring and potatoes was great. We also had the red sangria which we totally enjoyed. There is an outdoor area which was also...lovely for a nice after dinner drink. They do take reservations which is a plus. Enjoy!More

Mar Belo came highly recommend by a friend, and did not disappoint. Loved the red sangria. Lots of nice dishes to choose from, our group had everything from chicken to NY Strip to cod special to Green Mariscada, plus the clam appetizer. Everything was excellent,...the flavors were delicious in every dish. I had the Green Mariscada, and this version was better than I've had at several places in the Newark Ironbound. My only minor complaint was there was no soup served with the meals, all other Portuguese places I've been to serve soup with the meal. No deal breaker, everything was deliciouls, we'll be back.More
