We had mixed views of the tasting room. I was recommended it by a friend who said it was the best meal he has ever had. Now, the nature of the surprise menu means it can go two ways if they cook something you do, or don't like. You can't select what you want, you just tell them your dietary... More

From the welcome, the friendly banter with the waiters, through the rustic experience with friends, this was all round a warm experience. Of course it was enhanced by the quality and creativity of the many dishes on the surprise menu. My son has some intolerances and these were catered for with ease. Since the menu changes all the time and... More

There is a reason this place is consistently one of the top restaurants in the country. It is truly a culinary exploration rather than a simple dinner. I love that there's no pressure to reduce your stay into first or second seating. Simply come and enjoy an evening of mouthwatering interesting dishes. I highly recommend the wine pairing. The wines... More

One tasting room blends into another after a while but we had a wonderful five star lunch here then went to the tasting room. What a good idea!! 5 wines and prominent enough that we ran into their wines at subsequent restaurants. We were here four years ago and glad we came back!

On a Sunday afternoon we arrived at a surprising empty restaurant & we should make the connection but based on the reputation of the main restaurant we sat down for lunch. The venue was beautiful and the service excellent but the food was very disappointing. How do you serve a casserole without rice or mash potatoes? The risotto was ok... More

This dinner was definitely a completely new experience and we absolutely loved it. The service was very nice and attentive and gave some interesting information about the wines served (which were excellent by the way). The food was nice as well, definitely something you don't eat every day. Some of the dishes might have been a little "over the top"... More

We were surprised and sad to hear that Margot Janse was resigning so very pleased we managed to get a table at The Tasting Room during our annual pilgrimage to South Africa. Everything was up to what we had come to expect from this place with fantastic pairing and all at a very reasonable price. Would have posted some pictures... More

We visited last night and we cannot fault the service or wines served but the food was weird and dull, just to be polite. There is too much alcohol and not enough food by far, and what is delivered is pretentious and outdated 'nouvelle cuisine' of the worst kind. Good if you want to get completely drunk. I think the easiest... More

We are lucky enough to have eaten in a lot of amazing restaurants around the world. Unfortunately, this is NOT one of them. The dishes that come out of the kitchen have many complicated techniques but unfortunately have ZERO taste! Bland after bland after bland. If your used to living and eating in a city where you find many Michelin... More
