We wanted to see if we could find the Blue Swallow Motel, which was featured in a Route 66 book that I read many years ago, and decided to look for somewhere to have lunch. We both ordered a hamburger, which was served wrapped inside of a tortilla. Absolutely delicious. Am hoping to stop there again on the trip back... More

I have passed Tucumcari many times traveling back and forth between the coasts. When I have eaten it has always been a fast food option. Today I filled up with gas and hit google to see 'restaurants' instead of the fast food options of this town. Came up with this place. The downtown street is empty and I saw a... More

We were looking for a lunch spot while driving on I40 on Christmas Eve. El Herradero was a bit off the main drag but were intrigued by the "made from scratch" description of the food. The description was highly accurate and had some of the best chicken enchiladas with salsa verde we'd ever eaten. We also had bistec tacos, French... More

We bypassed the Mexican place right on 66 to visit this authentic, family run restaurant and it was excellent. Between us, we ordered the Choose 3 and Choose 4 plates and got to try tacos, enchiladas, chile rellenos and tamales. They were all VERY good as were the homemade and warm tortilla chips and the homemade salsa (spicy!). The tacos... More

The mexican food is delicious with lots of flavor, not bland at all. We were having lunch and noticed burgers being delivered to another table…."HUGE". I will have a burger next time.

We were lucky that the town of Tucumcari was having it's Fire Festival on the evening of Saturday, September 27, 2015, otherwise Peggy and her mother would have closed at 3:00 p.m. I'd called the restaurant several times over a two-week period to speak with the owner, Miss Peggy (No, not Romper Room). My most recent call had been placed... More

Thanks to Trip Advisor we found this wonderful family-owned business, which is just a little off the beaten path. The food was home cooked and piping hot, and the chile rellenos were quite possibly the best I've ever had. The cheese enchiladas were amazing as well. Qué Rico!!

This place is a little hard to find, but definitely worth the effort. I had a tamale and chicken enchilada with green chili sauce, beans and rice. All were excellent! Tasted homemade. Will stop here again.

I liked the food, really loved the people. So warm and wonderful, small-town folks. Nice murals along the walls.
