This cafe/teahouse is very dark and has a strange "healthy" menu probably based on the beliefs of the kind of commune that runs the place. Decor is strange and off-putting to me, but their service is invariably cheerful and they make a killer cappuccino (with Gimme Coffee, obviously).

Very friendly people, extremely cool interior, OK foods, good tea, and also the signature healing drink. Worth one visit. It is vey different than the Home Dairy, which used to live there.

The net result of what has been left is a mere wisp of what had been a marvelous Ithaca experience, a sadness.

This was my first time in Ithaca (and it won't be my last!). My sister and I walked by this beautiful old Dairy Co. building and saw it was now a cafe. It looked so awesome inside, we just had to go in! It was like walking through a door and entering a hobbit woods! Very unique atmosphere. We had... More

We had a wonderful afternoon at the Mate Factor Cafe. Just so happens the Ithaca Commons was reopening the weekend we were visiting (after being under construction for 3 years) and the Mate had live music inside and they were giving away free Mate drinks & sandwiches!! Yum!! Jonathan was so warm and charming and the atmosphere was just, aaaahhhhhhh.

The Belgian waffles are among the best things in Ithaca, especially without the ice cream but with butter syrup and whipped cream. Can never have enough of those!

I'd say 5/10 business associates recommend Mate when we meet for lunch. It has a wide range of options, good cafe offerings, and a very intriguing atmosphere.

I have to say one of the best mochas ever. I don't generally eat the food.. Not my type of food.. Though waffles are really good.. Some people can't get past that they are a different religious type of group or commune ( not sure which one ) they've never bothered me about it. Friendly and nice. Atmosphere is quite... More

I have been to Mate Factor twice. The first time was a number of years ago when I stopped in for a Yerba Mate. Most recently, I went in because I decided to give their sandwiches and juice bar a go. Upon entering, you will undoubtedly be struck by the decor. It's a bit "The Hobbit" meets "Country Junction." I... More

We stopped on a whim while walking through the commons. The outside pulled us in and the inside was even better! We had a waffle and bagel. It's hard to mess either of those up and they didn't!
