Don't get me wrong, I'm not a pretentious traveler and actually used to like stopping here from time because the place does have charm. The problem is, it seems like the owners/management just don't care. Service is always lukewarm to cool. I've never been greeted...More

The American Hotel has been around since stagecoach days, and continues to thrive. Pat, Rose & their staff prepare the very best soups you'll EVER find in a restaurant, and their sandwich selection is always changing and well worth discovering what's on the daily menu....More

A true American gem of a stop. At the historic corner of Rte 15A and 5/20 - the crossroads of New York. We had the best cold brews on tap at the original classic bar. Best ever BLT, x2 and soups mamma never could make...More

Like walking back into history, maybe 75 years. Wonderful atmosphere for time travelers. Wonderful soups, great service, comfort food, home cooking, friendly atmosphere, nice selection of beers, great bar, family owned, loyal staff (our waitress has worked there for 32 years). There's nothing like this...More

Best food east of the Mississippi. Features comfort foods in evenings. Hand made soups. Beautiful antique hand carved bar, great conversation. And to top it off, largest urinal in the world. I kid you not!

My friend and I went here on a Sunday afternoon. We each had a different kind of soup. They were both excellent! I wish I had ordered bowl instead of a cup! We also ordered a sandwich which was freshly made and tasted great. With...More

We were enroute our next stop and realized we hadn't had lunch and decided to stop for a quick bite. I had the vegetable beef soup and a flatbed sandwich of which bothers were really good. My spouse had the turkey Rueben and Mac salad...More

We were heading to Ithaca and getting hungry so keeping our eyes open for something other than fast food. The big "open" flag waving on the porch of this historic building made us pull over. What a lovely surprise! We were the only customers and...More
