Recommended by our hotel. We thought it was a great little spot. Good food, friendly bartender. Bought two t shirts for $52. Got home, out of state, washed with with a color catcher as we do all new shirts. All of our other items we...purchased in OBX were laundered the same way and were fine. Huge color wash outs in both shirts we purchased from Pop’s. I called the bar today, 5/22. Talked to a rude man who told me I would have to come in. Um sir, I just told you we live out of state. Asked if I could send the shirts back for a replacement. He to.d me the owner was out “dealing with some things’. Asked to talk to the bartender we had since he said she was there. He hung up on me. I called back, got her, she remembered us and gave me to another woman to talk to. The woman was rude, talked over me and said they didn’t sell us a damaged shirt so therefore they weren’t going to do anything about it. Really? I tried to explain, she interrupted and was rude as rude. So if you go, don’t by their product. We never wore the shirts and now they are in the trash. And they won’t stand behind their product. For that reason and for the rude treatment they get a 1More

We have been visiting Pop's every trip to Hatteras and we have always been satisfied. It's one of our favorite restaurants. Unfortunately, this last visit was a huge disappointment. We were seated in the outdoor picnic benches, right under a speaker that was too loud...(the music inside was also too loud, making it difficult to talk and be heard) . When we asked if the music could be turned down, the bartender responded, "I'm not allowed to touch the volume." Wow, what a lack of empowerment for the employees who can't accommodate a simple request. We ordered a dozen raw oysters. They were very, very small. Great in taste, just small in size and big in price. While we were there they ran out of Miller Lite. Table ran out of paper towels and so did the bathroom. Appetizers of crab balls with wasabi were out of the world delicious and the hush puppies were spot on. The tuna bites were seasoned and sautéed nicely, but the tuna was on stringy, ligament side, but overall good. The steamed shrimp was the biggest disappointment. Not at all the usual delicious shrimp we previously had. Shrimp lacked any flavor, the Old Bay seasoning was just kind of thrown on as if it was an after thought. The shrimp was extremely mushy, difficult to peel, and fell apart as I attempted to peel it. The young man who was bussing the tables, serving the food was fast, personable, always around to clear the table of finished plates and trash. I was always so pleased with the consistency of the quality of Pop's, but this visit I was very disappointed.More

Love this place. This is the kind of place you go to with the intention of getting fat and drunk. Tuna bites and spiced shrimp are my favorite. Weekends often host live music - nothing fancy, just a guy and a guitar. Perfect. I go...to OBX just to visit this place.More

Loud, redneck bar atmosphere. Had raw oysters that were very small but good. The prices here used to be less expensive than the fancy restaurants, but not any more. The price of a dozen oysters was more than the price of a restaurant in town...with a water front view.More

Stopped in for lunch and had the shrimp tacos fried combination. Man it don’t get much better then that. Locals and atmosphere were awesome. If we were staying closer wife and I would of stayed all day… Bartender and server really hustled to keep up...with the full bar and tables… will go back next time passing through….More

We look for outdoor seating so we can bring our dog. The server brought her out a bowl of water with ice and a refill cup. We had two ice cold beers and ordered a clam strip basket and a crab cake basket, they came...with fries , slaw and hush puppies. Great lunch and apparently everyone knows because they got super busy while we were there.More

We visited this place on 09/19/2022 for lunch. This is definitely a go to spot. Front parking is usually full, but there is parking behind the restaurant. Upon entering, the place was clean and we able to pick where we wanted to sit based on...available seating. This place isn’t very big, but it is exactly what we like. Far from the touristy vibe, this place felt like somewhere you would frequent if you lived here. I had the fried oysters and Buttercup had the fried catfish sandwich. Everything was fresh and delicious. We would recommend this place and definitely will be back!More

Great place for seafood and to experience a little "local color". We sat on the deck and had great crab cakes and fish bites. If you park in front of the building, try backing into your parking spot - it will make it easier to...get back on the Hwy 12.More

Pops was the perfect place for lunch after heading north from Ocracoke on the ferry. Not a bone of pretension here. We came a little after the lunch rush, but the bartender and server were fast and friendly, especially if you sit inside at the...bar or the surrounding small tables. This place is small and probably not the best for large groups or families. The only table that will accommodate you are the two large picnic tables outside. I don’t know anywhere else on the Outer Banks where you can get a $2 PBR or $3.50 on all other domestic beers. We started with a pound of Spicy Steamed Shrimp for $18.99. I don’t know that these big jumbo shrimps were local, but they were quite good. They come with a butter dipping sauce and plenty of Old Bay. The spice is not overpowering because much of it comes off as you peel and eat. Delicious, but the ½ pound for $10.99 might have been a better choice as an appetizer for three people ordering entrees. Two of us chose the fried oyster dinner. The fried oysters tasted delicious, plump, fresh, and just the right medium size. My nephew had the big shrimp sandwich which he said was very good. The homemade slaw was the best we had on the trip. Whether you choose steamed or fried Pop’s is a good choice. Pops is an old-fashioned local dive bar in the best possible way. Even enjoying two beers a piece with our lunch, this may have been the best value seafood meal we had on our trip. It is hard to find a good seafood meal in these parts for under $20.More

This place does not have any curb appeal but the inside has an old salty vibe and the food is outstanding and reasonably priced. I had the blacken scallops with French fries, coleslaw and hush puppies for $14.99. The scallops were the size of a...quarter and 1/2 pound (12). My wife had the fried shrimp, French fries, coleslaw and hush puppies for $12.99. Nothing fancy with plastic or foam plates and plastic eating utensils but really great food with a great atmosphere. If you are ever in Buxton NC this place is a must to try.More

Visited on a local’s recommendation and liked it so much went two days in a row! Not super fancy, but a solid recommendation for local seafood and burgers. Get the steamed peel and eat shrimp!

We love Pops! It’s a must every time we stay in OBX. Blackened shrimp tacos with their home made cocktail sauce is delicious! Friend pickles are great too. It’s a small place so may have a wait but worth it! Cold beer and good time!

This place is always hopping when we drive by, so decided to stop in for dinner. There were only two people working as servers, and they were working very hard to keep up. We wanted to sit outside, so waited for tables to be cleared,...but then had difficulty getting service out there. Additionally, because tables sat outside without being cleared or swept up, the bugs were a constant nuisance. The servers were friendly and were trying very hard; we just felt like they could have benefitted from one more person to assist. Our sandwiches were good, not great, but we'll probably give the place another chance.More

The food here was AWESOME!! We couldn’t believe the size of the oysters!! The clam strips were fresher than fresh. The scallops were juicy and the fried shrimp was just right. I’m not a big fan of slaw but it was off the chain.

Our food was superb. Everything was perfect. Cocktail sauce had enough horseradish to clear your sinuses. The fried shrimp was lightly battered. The steamed, spicy shrimp had enough spice to notice but not hot. My friend had oysters on the half shell he relayed were...the best he’s had & very fresh. I love hush puppies & these were very fine! Even the unsweetened tea was freshly brewed. We were very happy with the prompt service & friendly atmosphere.More
