A Foodies Must Visit when in Durham.

On our recent trip to Durham, NC we were told we had to try Dame's Chicken & Waffles, so we did. It was Sunday afternoon and the line to dine was quite long. We put our name on the wait list and finally an hour later we were sitting down at the table. Our visit was during COVID, so we were required to wear a mask unless we were at our table. They were extremely busy, so it was quite difficult to hear the waitress, so she had to almost yell to explain the menu and take our order. I had actually never had Chicken and Waffles, so I thought trying it at a place famous for the best I could not go wrong. The menu provides you will already paired smears and sauces, but they also have the option to create your own combo. I went with the Classic Chick, nothing too crazy. The smear and sauces are on the side so you can apply as much or as little as you want. Jenni decided she just wanted the fried chicken, which she really enjoyed. With her meal she had a side of squash and I had the potato salad (which was really yummy). If you are in Durham, NC and you are looking for something with a little Southern flare then you should really try Dame's Chicken and Waffles.

Awesome chicken & waffles

Second time coming here. First time came pre-corona and just visited again during the corona virus. Food-wise, the chicken and waffles are awesome. Just about what you'd expect. I felt like the chicken was delicious, crispy, and well seasoned. However, I felt like the waffles were pretty average. Service was pretty slow. In terms of cleanliness during the virus, I felt like they were pretty good. They had lines outside the restaurant for pickup with spots to be socially distant (although, not everyone followed those spots). While all employees seemed to have masks, not all of them wore them over their noses which was kind of odd.

I go where the locals go

Not being from this part of the Country, I wanted to know what this whole "chicken and waffles" thing was all about. I just could not imagine the two would ever go together on the same plate let alone the same meal. I was led by some friends that are locals and a little help from our waiter this evening and I was taught the ways of the chicken and waffle meal. I have to say after an evening at Dame's tonight, there should be a Dame's in every city across America! The menu option was large and the combinations of toppings was extensive but I just wanted to go with traditional. Waffle, chicken and syrup. The rest of my table choose other toppings such as carmel, cashews, maple pecan butter, almond butter, chocolate sauce, sweet potato waffle and other toppings. To be honest I enjoyed them all and could see my next time going a little more creative but for a first timer I really enjoyed the "original" way. Also ordered collard greens, mac and cheese, grits with cheese and potato salad. All of the sides were great also and would recommend but it really is about the chicken and waffles.

Worst experience ever in a Resturant

We were in Dames for lunch before The Norte Dame Tarheel game. The person that took our order was so obnoxious and hateful. All she did was complain about the help in the back. We waited for over an hour for our food, some other patrons just got up and left with their number on the table, lost their money, because you pay when you order. We went to ask about the food and the person delivering the orders could have cared less. When we finally got our food, it was cold. So it had been sitting there for some t8me before the person brought it to us. Horrible experience. We had a 7 year old boy that sat with us waiting on our food and he was better than anyone working there.

SOOO GOOD!

My daughter recommended Dame's as she had eaten here once before. Did not disappoint. We had 2 of their specialty mimosas (Carolina Sunrise and Peach & Raspberry Cobbler). Both were delicious. For our meals we got "What a Classy Hen" (we subbed out the vanilla & almond shmear for maple-pecan) and "Mimi's Sassy Shrimp" Our server was a sweetheart and gave us great suggestions. We went on a Saturday morning not long after they opened and it definitely fills up fast.

Unpleasant and Over-rated

This is my 2nd time coming to Dames Chicken & Waffles and I would say that I was not impressed by the food the ambiance or the customer service. The 2nd time I went the place smelled like stale eggs with a wet moldy rag smell in the air around my table, and the chicken was burnt and over cooked. The waitress didnt bring me my hot syrup as requested in fact the female manager in the purple shirt came over to our table and shoved the waitress away from talking to me and they walked off. Such hostility displayed and nasty behavior. This place is over-rated. The only thing cool about this place is the nice pictures on the wall. I ended up having to eat a dry waffle with a butter smear which i didnt finish. This place was a complete waste of my precious time. I did not enjoy the food or the service. I can think of better places to go and eat with a better smell. Dames gets an F for me. Everybody working there has a low-key angry attitude. I will never visit this place ever again. The food is not all that and neither is this so called restaurant Its a no go for me.

Absolutely inept business.

Why is there no 0 out of 5. I don’t care what their food tastes like, and actually I will never know. This place has no idea how to run a business. They have no business offering takeout orders as they can’t even serve the people in the restaurant. Our takeout order was 45 min late and trying to get it was absolutely chaos. Then they give the order and chase us to the car saying it was someone else’s. Then they tell us the order isn’t even in and we should cancel it. No food, no apology no nothing. No offer for a make good. Just nothing.

Average Food Beyond Terrible Service

Waited an hour after putting in our order to get our food. Understaffed, slow, no sense or urgency. We came on a Saturday night and missed part of a show trying to scarf down food and get the check. Beyond disappointing. I cancelled my order, wife and children scarfed down food. Can’t comment about food much because the service was so terrible. I guess you can go here if you are willing to be here for 3 hours.

Delicious chicken and waffles

Delicious food, friendly staff, and a fun decor made this a great experience. We tried three different chicken and waffles combos and all three were amazing. Chicken was moist, shmears and sauces were tasty. I would definitely return next time we’re in Durham.

Waffle game is weak

This was my second time at Dame's, and the first time I excused the bad waffle as an off-night, but it was the same this time. The waffle was floppy, tasteless, and not fresh off the iron. The chicken was OK, but over-breaded. Service was friendly. They brought my coffee at the end of the meal, apologized and didn't charge me for it. If the two ingredients are in the name of your restaurant, they should be really good.

Awesome Chicken and Waffles served by a friendly staffin this crowded restaurant. Opens at 10am & the line begins at about 9:30 weather dependent. Large selection of waffles & chicken parts. We opted for the legs which were cooked perfectly.

Awesome All Around

Was traveling in Durham NC 09/26/20 and had extra time for something to eat. This place was awesome. Atmosphere great and bright. Nicely themed interior. Greet staff was nice and smiled. My waiter was A1, I am at a loss of his name but we talked about his journey of his stretched ears. He was polite and knowledgeable of the menu. Wings, waffles, grits w/cheese, collards and ice tea all were fantastic. I will surely let everyone I know about this place and hope they come and share the same feeling that I have.

Excellent Spot for a Business Meeting in Durham

After 3 trips in Durham, I was finally able to eat at Dame's Chicken & Waffles. Great food for Less, amazing location and great customer service. I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a spot to eat in Durham.

OMG! This was the best. The Mac & cheese was to die for . I had the chicken sandwich with a sweet mild smear with fries. It was the best chicken sandwich I’ve ever hope I have the location right. I just know we were in Durham. For a party of about 15 people, the service was great and fast!

High Expectations Unfulfilled

We'd been in Durham now for almost a week and wanted to try some Southern cooking. Menu descriptions sounded delicious - so very much looking forward to the meal. Given pandemic conditions, we ordered take-out. Overall, food was fine, but similar to versions of these dishes we've had up North. The Mimi's Sassy Shrimp tasted fine, but not especially different - a combination of beef bouillion and spicy sausage. Plenty of shrimp, as there were 10 medium sized one. The disappointment was the "cheesy grits", as it was just grits with some cheese sprinkled on it. I've had cheesy grits in dives that were cheesier and smoother than this. The Orange Speckled Chabo featured a chicken cutlet a third the size of the waffle. Unfortunately, it was dry, too. The Carolina Cockerel seemed reasonable with the 3 wings. The shmears were bla - the specific flavors were weak so that it just tasted like sweetend margerine. Overall, dinner was fine - but it was not special.
