Love is the essential ingredient in the food here. Hand crafted and well thought out tapas allow you to try a little bit if everything without committing to one meal. Great scene for a night out. Not quiet or romantic, but vibrant and yummy

Three of us went on a Saturday night for dinner. Downstairs was packed and LOUD; however, the upstairs dining room where we were directed had only 2 other tables occupied and the waitress was very helpful in describing the specials of the day as well as any menu item that we questioned. A Duck Rabbit Milk Stout beer started the... More

We spent about 3 hours here on a busy Friday night, and never felt rushed. When we needed to order more tapas or drinks, our waiter was right there, but if we wanted to linger, that was ok, too. We tried a variety of small plates, both off the regular menu and the chalkboard specials. Standouts included spicy oysters, the... More

Simple greatness. The flavor capitol of Carolina. Consistent excellence...Trout salad and Gamas are my favorite . But I reccommmend you order from the specials on the big chalk board.

I can tell you this, it will not be my last time having tapas. We ordered 5 different plates and shared between 3 of us. The food was delicious and the servers were very knowledgeable. Great location in downtown Durham!

I visited downtown Durham for several days (after living there 9 years ago) and was impressed by the positive growth including restaurants like Mateo. The restaurant was crowded and we were seated within 5 minutes of our reservation. The tapas were varied and excellent. Service good. I will return!

The tapas are excellent and the recipes are authentic. Over the weekends the bar makes it a good hangout for those who want an In place, but loses its charm with loud rock music and large crowds.

You just can't go wrong with Mateos. Even Alton Brown said they were the best tapas in America. I agree. Each time the food is interesting, savory, local, fresh, and delicious! Prices aren't too steep but not a bargain either. I think the quality is fair for the price and have no problem visiting for a evening celebration and just... More

Beautiful restaurant. Very amiable and fast staff. Food was really delicious. We share different tapas and the flavors were just amazing.
