We vacation in the Outer Banks every year and this was our first time staying in Hatteras. We weren’t far from Sonny’s and saw it was always packed. We decided to give it a try and were very pleased. The menu isn’t huge, but they have a nice selection. We went for lunch. My husband had the fish sandwich, my daughter the shrimp, and my son had a turkey bacon sandwich and I had the pulled pork. All of it was really good! We had a small wait, and they were very apologetic, but this was to be expected as they had every other table closed, so they could safely distant guests from each other during the pandemic. There was no need for apologies!! The waitress was very nice and did a good job. Next year we plan to go back for breakfast.

This is a plain, little local restaurant where mostly locals eat, along with those waiting for the ferry to Ocracoke. The prices were moderate and they had a few soups, salads, sandwiches and platters on the menu. Nothing unusual or different on the menu.
I ordered a salad with grilled chicken. It consisted of iceberg and Romaine lettuce, 1 slice of tomato, 2 slices of cucumber, grated carrots and cheese, with a small grilled chicken breast on top. All ingredients were fresh. Tasted good- nothing fancy.
My husband ordered the Pulled Pork Platter with applesauce. It came with a large pile of pulled pork, and bar b cue sauce on the side. He thought he was getting a sandwich, but no bread was included. He enjoyed it though.
We were hungry, couldn't get on the ferry to Ocracoke (3 hour wait) and had to drive back to Nags Head, so it filled the bill for a place to eat and be served fairly quickly.

Mixed experience this year. Breakfast once which was great. Both food and service. Carry out twice - not so good. Ordered 7 dinners and portions were markedly small. Large tip was added, but was not clear on receipt so added even more. Again ordered lunch - soup was lukewarm - paid for bowls but just one bare cup. Onion rings warm as was fish so the barely warm soup was a real turn off. Was one of our favorite places for years and think they should do what they can to be great once again

We have always visited Sonny’s while on vacation for the last few years. This year with the pandemic I called the day before to make sure they could accommodate our large family party (25). I was assured they would be able to accommodate but to come early as they don’t take reservations. Upon getting sat at our tables (separated of course) we were rudely told that we can only do 3 checks For our large party as they “don’t have a sale point system”. As we sat there trying to figure out how we would do checks we were rudely asked if we were ready, and again told that this lis listed on their menu” and there are no exceptions. We most definitely would of sorted it out amongst us but it was this waitress/self proclaimed manager’a attitude that left us not even wanting to order or in that case return. We got up and went across the street to Breakwater restaurant (which I highly would recommend) there service was wonderful they were happy to have our business and were very warm and friendly to us. I think I should also note that Sonny’s includes gratuity for parties which may be why they feel they can get away with being rude. It was disheartening to say the least that one of our traditional stops had turned callous and rude.

We ate here in June with a party of 9 for a weeknight dinner. We arrived just as they were opening for dinner and were seated fairly quickly (with a wheelchair). The food was average for seafood fare. The crab cake was tasty. Our service was good. The restaurant itself is rather small so I imagine the wait could get pretty long during high season.

We always have breakfast at Sonny’s when we’re in Hatteras. The food is excellent, however, one of the servers is incredibly rude and will ruin your meal. She knows who she is. When you hate your job, you should work somewhere else and keep your attitude to yourself. The other servers have been courteous.

Best all-around value in Hatteras village. They serve a hearty, sit-down breakfast or a quick biscuit to go. Lunch and dinner have a range of fresh local seafood at the best prices. Not fancy sauces, just good, properly prepared seafood. If you want a great blacked fish on a caesar salad, this is your place. If you want a fried flounder basket with fries and coleslaw, this is your place.

called them at the last minute when our family group (6 adults/6 kids) decided to eat out. They said they could seat us then @ 5:15p and we arrived within 10 minutes. The service was exceptional and very kid friendly (tops on drinks) and a nice kids menu. Kids meals came out first which was much appreciated. Our server, Erin, was topnotch, and the food was great!

We stopped in here for some lunch one day last week with a very upset baby. My son would not let me sit down and wanted to be held, one of the staff came over and scooped him up and walked him all around the restaurant for 20 solid minutes. I could eat, have a sip of my beer and speak with my family. The kindness we were shown will ensure that when we’re back in the area we will be back to eat. THANK YOU!!!

Three of us had breakfast here on Saturday morning. We beat the crowd by a bit so our wait for a table wasn’t very long. We had pancakes, an omelette and corned beef hash. Hash was ordered crispy and it was cooked perfectly!
Our waitress, Jasmine was super friendly and kept our drinks topped off!
Can’t wait yo go back!

We love eating local while traveling, and this place is the reason why. Soft shell crab, clams, fish, etc. We don't even love sea food, but it was AMAZING. It was so good in fact, we went back a couple of days later for breakfast, and it was even better than the dinner!!! So good!

Unfortunately, Sonny's was only offering take out due to the time of the year and labor issues. Fortunately, the shrimp dinners were delicious and plentiful, with a light cornmeal coating, and 14 shrimp. House salad was lacking in ingredients. We'd order again.

Family owned and the food good. 2 breakfasts and 2 dinners . We kept going back because the grandkids liked the shrimp alfredo and French toast and the rest of us enjoyed our meals. We had good quick service until a bad experience the last visit. Waited an hour for a table. 9:30-10:30 OK busy day, An hour after ordered 11:30 we got our food. Everyone seated after us done and leaving. The grandson was crying and we had to get the hostess to check on our food. Waitress had to have lost it. We never had waited that long before. Had to ask for something quick for the grandson which they did but it ruined our meal. Our last on the island, What a shame. An apology or explanation would have helped a lot. I wanted to walk out but that made the grandson cry more because he wanted the French Toast. How sad.

Always get great food, not madder what you order it is wonderful. Come down twice a year for two weeks each trip and visit very often for dinner.
The Clam Chowder is well made and I always enjoy a bowl or Cup! Last night had the Crabmeat, with hushpuppy's and my friends may of the the other great meals.
Have gone twice in the last week and will return.

Always enjoy my meals at Sonny’s! Have been coming out here for years, never had a bad meal. If you like seafood they have it.We have a fishing group that comes down twice a year. Look forward to my trips to eat!
