If you haven't heard about this place, you are missing out. Southern inspired food from a chef born in NC, trained in NYC, and back home exploring the southern food heritage. It is well-prepared and well-thought out, with local fresh ingredients - not snobby. Watch a Chef's Life, get your reservations, and go!!!

Had a most wonderful dinner. Made reservations a month in advance. Seated promptly. Excellent service. The food was amazing! Enjoyed sharing several appetizers, small plates, entree, and dessert!! All were delicious. Nice wine and beer list.

This was our second trip to Kinston and Chef and the Farmer and it was just as awesome as our first. We brought friends this time and they just fell in love with the city and this restaurant. Atomsphere and staff were awesome (especially the bartender and our waitress). Chef and the Farmer never disappoints!!

My expectations were low, partly b/c it seems so over-hyped, partly b/c I had read a few complaints, and mostly b/c how much range could a farm-to-fork restaurant have in early March? Well, wow. We shared the sea bass crudo and the run-ups. Both were exquisite: really interesting, perfectly portioned and delicious. The run-ups were the most exciting, partly b/c... More

You've heard the hype. The chef is famous. Book. Tv show, etc. But sometimes things are really just that good. And in the case of the Chef and Farmer, they exceeded any expectations I had. Truly an amazing experience. Pre-dinner cocktails: all recipes are created in-house. My date and I had the Jim Beam Rye / Beet / Mint Julep... More

Staff wonderful. Susan our server was so very nice and was super helpful. Bread plate she brought out was wonderful. Nice decor but low key-I liked it. Bartender very good and also very nice. Everything we had was top notch. Since we have had meals all over including being served by Jose Andres at the Minibar in DC, chef's kitchen... More

I've watched a Chef's Life on PBS. Always wanted to eat at the Chef & the Farmer. It is a two hour drive for me but it was worth it. Food was excellent. I got the beef short rib. It was so tender that a knife was not needed. Our table split two desserts, chocolate mousse cake & marshmallow ice... More

Scott worked late and we had reservations at 6, they kindly allowed us to change to 8:00. The bartender actually came to the table to make a martini suggestion. I chose the pork chop because everyone was talking about it. It was amazing. Scott had the fish and he loved it. It was a great combination of fantastic service, modern... More

Kinston leaves a lot to be desired but when we heard about this place we were excited. There aren't a lot of high end restaurants in the area. It wasn't a special occasion we just happened to be in the area. The service and food was amazing. The menu is limited but the food was fresh and amazing. We felt... More
