Fabulous service, great location. We dined indoors as the evenings were getting chilly but blankets were available for the brave. The food is gorgeous with a great selection of special wines which you won't be able to taste at the cellar doors. Possible to get a table on the day of booking.

Unless you've got a bit of money to spend and not that hungry then this is place for you... Unlike me, who's pregnant and starving. My husband and I just ate here (literally half an hour ago). I ordered the pumpkin tortelli. I can't have nuts so made sure to tell the waitress. Our meals then come out, and mine... More

Highly recommended, we tried the charming looking 1918 for dinner. The setting is lovely, the staff friendly and efficient ( maybe even trying a little too hard) The food was nothing more than ok, with my starter especially disappointing. The fact that we were in the middle of the wine region seems to give license to charge more for an... More

We visited at lunch as we were charmed by the character of the building and had some good reviews. Menu was set at 2-3 courses with a glass of wine. Wine was good so we ordered a bottle. The starter was good. Bruschetta being two medium sized pieces of local bread with a delicious topping of different tomatoes, mozzarella and... More

I like the garden setting. The food is pretty good. However, I was expecting more for the price. I guess it could be due to the premium of being located in Tanunda.

Fabulous bread with special dipping oil, the best we've tasted.Food quality is excellent with extensive quality wine cellar. Winter dining is a delight beside the open fire.

As a resident of Tanunda I have loved this restaurant for years but something has changed. Mains are all around $40 and you really have no options for paying less as the tasting plates look very small when described on the menu. I ordered pork belly and out come a large plate with a long strip of pork belly cut... More

Some of our courses were excellent and the desserts were exceptional. Others were over flavoured - the scallops could have been anything under the dukkah and was very disappointing.

Had the pleasure of eating here last weekend. Sat outside on the veranda and enjoyed the evening weather. Food was top notch. Bread with oil, while basic, was wonderful. Great wine list. Sampled ALL of the sides. Really impressed with the quality.

I dined with a group, having dined many times before, and had aways been happy with the service and produce.....until now. Firstly, the staff pointed out our group had lessened our original booked numbers, out of our control, yet inconvenient for them. Granted, but as I said, I'm not prepared to ask my fellow diners to attend at gun point!!... More

The Great War was drawing to a close when Friedrich Carl Gottleib Wallent put the finishing touches to his fine home in Murray Street, by chiseling the date in the foundation stone by the front door. His son Morris later became the mayor of Tanunda and took over the family home. More than 70 years later in 1992, an enterprising group of locals turned the proud Wallent home into the Barossa's first bistro grill - a friendly and generous place where Barossa winemakers could entertain their guests and visitors could relax after a hard day's wine tasting.

In 1998 Tanya and Sid King visited 1918 as guests 17 years later, in 2015 the opportunity arose for The King Family to be the new custodians of this fine home of Barossa Hospitality.

They are passionate about serving fresh, seasonally-inspired cuisine, accompanied by carefully selected wines from the Barossa's best and iconic Australian and International wineries - but guests are also welcome to bring their own special bottle. What you'll also find is a youthful passion and buzz, modern Australian tastes and flavours that are borrowed from Asia and the Middle East, and a genuine willingness to please.
