In the summer season, Big Oak is extremely busy so I love going in the winter (even though they are only open on a limited basis) for a shrimp burger! Really really good! My cousins ALWAYS get Big Oak BBQ to take home with them after their vacation. It's a ritual that will never end in sure...it's that good!

I stop by as often as I can. The seafood is great, even though it is fried. My favorite is an OysterBurger, all the way. All the way may not sound great but once you have it, you know it is great. The mix of slaw, tartar sauce & ketchup really works. Not cheap, not fancy, but there is a... More

I grew up going to the NC coast back in the 60's. This past summer was my first trip to the Big Oak. I ordered the large shrimp burger and the bbq. Both were excellent and I am a NC bbq snob (Little Richards, Short Sugars, Wilburs, Allen and Sons, Lexington, Stamey's, etc.). The large sandwiches are huge! Onion rings... More

Ate here each time at the beach. We order the shrimp burger and the oyster platter. We waited about 10 minutes for our order. My wife asked the oyster to be cook lightly. The cook saw part of the instructions on the bag. The oysters was not burn, just not cook like the instructions on the bag. The shrimp burger... More

This has been our family tradition every summer for years. We love the Scallop, Shrimp and Oyster Burgers and the Hush Puppies are to die for. I recommend calling your order in for pick up due to the long lines during the height of season. Our order is always ready when we arrive and they never make a mistake. Personally... More

The Big Oak still put's out the best shrimp burger I've ever had. The staff is friendly and quick. Find a place to park because tourists flock to this establishment, for good reason. Get a bottle of the hot sauce to go.

If you have never had a shrimp burger, you should try one! They are great from Big Oak. They take cash only, and often have a long line at the lunch rush. Smallish parking lot, and best to plan to get as take out (they may have a single picnic bench?) and find a nice view to eat and enjoy!

This is a hidden gem on the island. We had a hard time finding a lunch spot as nothing was open. This place was perfect. It is a walk up and order style, so we ate in the vehicle. Do not let this stop you! The food was great. Prices were not bad, but we spent a little more than... More

2nd time I've reviewed this place. Order and eat it there. Taking it home or pre-ordering over the phone may save time and be convenient, but once juicey sandwiches get mushy buns and cold fries taste greasy.

Unassuming. Great lunch spot. That about says it. We had the shrimp burgers (I recommend the large size) and really crispy onion rings. The place was busy on a late morning Saturday and I'm sure it's a favorited the locals.
