Very sanitary, clean restaurant.Excellent high quality minced bbq with almost no fat.The minced sandwich is my suggestion. They pile on the bbq and the sandwich is under $5.I order mine with sweet sauce on the side and also the regular sauce. You can’t use too much. The French fries...are the best in town and always hot.Best ice tea in town.More

Great local BBQ place . They have the best vinegar based sauce for chopped or sliced bbq. Make sure you try the hush puppies. All the waitresses are great but Jackie is the best.

Went to lunch with a coworker over 10 years ago and he said the BBQ Chicken was the best...so everytime I get a chance to eat there I have always got the BBQ Chicken. Hush Puppies, BBQ slaw and sweet tea 👍🏼👌🤓

I like most everything at Alston Bridges BBQ. Their ribs are pretty good! Have also had their chicken and BBQ. Can’t go wrong here. Service was a little slow, but everyone has a bad day.

This place appears to be not much from the outside but man do they know how to do southern BBQ right. Excellent service, cheap prices and people come from all over just to try this food. You won't regret this choice.

Alston is our choice for carry out bbq. The food is always fresh and satisfying. Our favorite order choice is a half pound of chopped pork and sauce, an order of fries, hushpuppies, and a pack of buns. Cost is covered by a ten and...five or $15.00. The half pound will make between 3-5 sandwiches for us. The pork is always tender and moist. The sauce is a vinegar base which is ok but not my favorite. The fries hot and the hushpupppies crunchy. We like the restaurant bun pack best due to the freshness and the cost. Calling the order in sometimes take more than one call but still worth it. The waitress have always been courteous and efficient when I step inside to pick up our order. A worthwhile stop if you enjoy bbq pork.More

I grew up near Shelby and have been eating at both Bridges BBQ (you can not just say you are looking for Bridges BBQ inn Shelby)..there are two. One..Red Bridges..is located near the mall. This one..Alston Bridges is located near the hospital. There are many...people here who are either team Red or team Alston. Me? I am team BBQ. But on this particular day, I was at the hospital since my mom was having surgery. My sister-in-law and I took a lunch break while her surgery was going on and ran down to Alston to grab some 'Q. A short Q lesson for the uninitiated of NC 'Q. In the BBQ wars..NC is always mentioned. Because..well we have the best Q. Pork rules here and it is a slow process. It is cooked in a fire pit for hours. Sauce is vineagar based and has some kick to it. Pit masters are revered. And we are serious about our Q. BBQ joints are often simple with not alot of fuss. Because..well..it is about the Q. Alston Bridges BBQ has been in business since 1955 and no signs of stopping. It is a fan favorite of locals and visitors alike. We arrive and go in and have a seat and our server quickly comes over and takes our drink orders. Normally I go for tea but I spied a Sundrop (local soda) in a bottle in the cooler and order that and SIL gets tea. I am at a BBQ joint so I get the same thing. Both my SIL and I order the large BBQ plates intending on sharing with our spouses..both of ending up have to place orders to go for our spouses. Our pork plates comes with 2 sides...we both get hushpuppies (fried cornbread) as it is to die for and then Elaine gets fries and I get slaw because it is the correct slaw (red or BBQ slaw which is not mayo based but the vineager BBQ sauce based) and we split those. It doesnt take long before the food to arrive and this is just perfect..as always. Like I said they are located near the hospital and minutes from downtown. There is plenty of free parking. The food here is the best and the service is always excellent. The only complaint I have..is I do not live closer. They are closed on the weekend so plan accordingly. And the prices make it easy on your wallet. They have lots of awards and been written up all over the place..because again..this is awesome food. For great food and down home service..you cant go wrong here.More

As we were coming in a happy satisfied customer on her way out told us and everyone in ear shot to ‘try the hushpuppies!’ We did. Along with our order of sliced bbq we got a large order of the best hushpuppies around and suitable...for a vegetarian who doesn’t ask too many questions about how their food was prepared. Plenty of room to eat in at Bridges or take out service is very friendly and speedy.More

There are two “Bridges” Barbecue restaurants in Shelby and although they have different names, we hear from locals they are owned by the same family. We visited Alston Bridges restaurant. Obviously this place is very popular with the locals. We came at lunch time and...the place was hopping! Lots of tables and a diner-like bar were nearly all full, but we were able to be seated promptly. Before I go on, let me caveat my review by saying we are from Texas and are used to Texas-style barbecue. That being said, I am still very familiar with NC-style barbecue and actually love pulled pork and some of the other selections you might not see as often in Texas. Overall I would rate the food as OK. There was nothing wrong with it — it all seemed fresh and well-prepared, it just didn’t seem like anything special either. Honestly kind of plain. Their barbecue “sauce” was really not sauce at all but just liquid. The sliced pork was good, but again, kind of plain. Cole slaw and hush puppies were unique and tasted good. French fries were typical. Let me give a little warning here. Their plates come in three sizes: large, small, and kids. Anyone can order the kid’s size and the three ladies (with small appetites) with me did so. Wow… talk about “kid’s” size! These dishes came on a desert-size paper plate, with a small slice of pork, a spoonful of slaw and half-a-dozen french fries. Hush puppies came in a separate small paper basket. They all said it was enough, but not sure how… My large-size was just right for me! Overall, a good place, put nothing special. I could take it or leave it next time.More

Went here with a group of friends while here watching our kids play in the ALWS. WE had a party of 13 and they seated us right away. Our waitress was the epitome of Southern Hospitality. I ordered the 5 ribs based on the waitress'...recommendation. I was not disappointed. They were very good. They were not the best ribs i have eaten, but they were "damn good" to quote someone in my party. The BBQ coleslaw was awesome. I am not a coleslaw guy, but i had to try and I am so glad I did. If I am every back in Shelby, I will come back again! Highly recommended!More

I have enjoyed Bridges’ BBQ my entire life. Unfortunately, I no longer live in the area, so I rarely get to go these days. However, we were able to visit a couple of years ago with my grandmother, and the food was just as delicious...as it always has been! Now, my preference will always be mustard-based (South) Carolina BBQ, but Bridges has the most delicious vinegar-based BBQ I have ever had. You HAVE to try their bbq slaw...it’s delicious! The atmosphere takes you right back to the 1950s. You will honestly feel like you’ve gone back in time. Get there early, because once they run out of meat, that’s it!More

One of the many hats I wear is assisting with a BBQ Championship in my home state of Virginia. While traveling to Shelby in September 2018, I decided to try out this famous BBQ restaurant with a co-worker. This was a quick lunch trip. I...was not disappointed. Excellent customer service. The food was perfect. Absolutely delicious. The parking lot was easily accessible and the seating was great. Highly recommend!More

They have vinager base sauce(The only way! IMO) and ketchup based sauce (By request only). I have been going here for 20 years and to the best of my knowledge they have never had a mustard type sauce
