I've been a resident of Southport for some time now and have been to MSOB several times. Today will likely be my last. Service was HORRIBLE. We sat at the bar and had a guy "serve us" He said all of 8 words to us...the whole time we were there; "What do you want to drink?", and when he delivered the drinks, "You ready?" The rest of the time he just leaned against the back of the bar glowering at the customers as if willing them to leave. Both my wife's lunch and mine were mediocre at best. And that is generous. We were never asked how our meal was, if we needed anything, or if we wanted another drink. This guy did NOTHING other than the bare minimum it would take to encourage us to leave as soon as possible. And we did.More
We stopped by the oyster bar while visiting w/friends in Oak Island. We just wanted to grab a bite to eat and we were blown away w/the selection and quality of the food and tap selection. The service was top notch too! (Brook was on...top of everything!) We ordered the fried dill pickle appetizer along w/the loaded tots. They arrived hot and they didn’t disappoint. I ordered a steamer pot and my wife had the grilled lobster and cheese sandwich w/house chips. Both of the meals were fantastic. We are already planning are next visit in December! You will not be disappointed!More
Wonderful place to stop in and grab a bite and a drink. One of the few places to find really good oysters and only place I have found chargrilled oysters!
Consistent high quality food and service. Best seat is at the bar. Cold fresh oysters. And fries ordered crispy with old bay seasoning is always a hit.
Visited here 3 times last year so this year I brought the family in with me and boy oh boy were we all disappointed. Forgot our server name but he had long deadlocks. We were seated immediately. Took forever for our drink order to be...taken. Then it took forever for our drinks to be brought to us. Then it took forever for our appetizer and entree orders to be taken. We submitted both at the same time because we were getting tired of the waiting game. About 25-30 minutes later our server approached us and asked how is everything. We looked at our empty tables and back at him and said we haven’t gotten anything yet. He went back in the kitchen and brought out our appetizer and then shortly thereafter our entrees saying they kitchen just finished them up. Yeah ok, I was born at night but not last night. So why was my burger not hot? Anyways I understand the local restaurants are having staffing issues but this guy clearly don’t wanna wait or deserve to wait on tables IMO. Loved this place the last 2 years visiting but will avoid at all costs from here on out.More
During my last visit to Southport. we usually stop for Oysters, namely Moore Street Oyster Bar. Its pub like atmosphere and gastro foods make it interesting. However, this last visit was not like any other experience. We order the 12 Oysters, baked to order and...with parmesan cheese, market price, for an app, which is something that usually is preset. We order drinks. Thats fine. What isn't fine, is for 12 Oysters, for two people, they provide 2 minis and I mean mini, slices of baguette. The purpose is to enjoy the sauce /oil that generally drips into the bowl, which is quite good. Since that's not nearly enough bread we ask for more bread. Ten minutes later, the bartender, not the wait staff, brings 3 small pieces of baguettes out. We accept that and move onto our main course, At that point we still don't have our drinks we ordered, and we have to ask again. As the check was presented. we see that a very cheesy move by the owner, has been predetermined, to charge us for three small pieces of baguettes! Ok this isn't a soup line or deli. This is a restaurant with a following, The persons making the menu have to know customers are paying for a full meal and drinks. So, let's throw together 3 pieces of bread and charge you for them. We asked the server, she just smiled and confirmed that yes you are being charged for 3 slices of mini baguettes. My suggestion is going elsewhere in Southport where a good meal can be found and where the compliment to a meal should state that bread, more than one piece each, is included. Here are a few very good restaurants in the vicinity that do provide their daily bread, Fishy Fish, Olivers and the list can go on. With so many choices, there's no need to get cheesed out of great meal!More
As other venues struggled for competent help and service , we were welcomed off the street to sit at the bar to eat. The 30+ bar tender (she looked 22) was our host and guided us with some of the favorites the locals like best....I had a seafood medley in a tomato based sauce that was to die for! It was that good! Local beer choices were a good sample of the region. Too full to eat desert, they sent us home with a slice of chocolate cake that was wonderful as a midnight snack.More
We were blown away by the hospitality of the whole staff. Not to mention the foods and drinks were amazing!! They were only going to be open for a few hours because they were going to be filming a movie in Southport. So I assumed...they would have been a little rushed etc. considering the circumstances but they were not. Great job and we all will be back again!!More
We love to have lunch here. Best oysters and friendly service. The AHI Tuna appetizer is very good. And fries with old bay seasoning is fantastic. Highly recommend!
Best option if you like oysters. They usually have 4-6 varieties and they are served on ice and are clean. It would be nice if they served a mignonette but they offer a red dipping sauce( generic type) and horseradish. The people here don’t seem concerned...with the brine. Decent selection of bourbon and appetizers. The drinks are good and served in the proper glass. If you’re a New England coast or Martha’s Vineyard person the seafood along the NC coast is abysmal in comparison. Fine, artisan restaurants seem non existent. Every town seem to have a Taco Bell, Burger King or McDonald’s. That being said we enjoyed our meal here and the atmosphere was pleasant.More
The staff was very nice and made excellent recommendations that did not disappoint. I had the lobster grilled cheese which was delicious and my husband had the wings with the creamy Buffalo sauce. We will definitely be back.
One of the best eateries in town! I love their oysters - always fresh well opened if raw, and well presented with special sauces as well! Ahi tuna was super delkcious.
Food and service are always great! Would definitely recommend it! Great atmosphere and location, as well!
Fish & Chips tasty but very meager portion. Crab balls no flavor. Service was not good. I will return but try a burger. Neat place and location.
