Walked in on a Tuesday night. Restaurant was 3/4 full. Our party of 4 was sat quickly and that's when things went down hill. Waited a solid 10 minutes before seeing the waitress followed by another 20 to receive basic drinks. Again, the restaurant was...not full by any means and there were only 2 couples at the bar. Tapas arrived 15 minutes later and then 20 minutes later the bread finally arrives with the salads and entrees. I asked for a glass of wine to go with my meal which never arrived. I kindly asked to cancel once I had finished eating. If the food had been at least average, I think we could have overlooked the excessive waiting and extremely slow bar. Sadly, the food was not up to par, some of it inedible. I had the filet special which was bland and average...it wouldn't have prompted me to leave a review of any kind, but my husband's catfish special was absolutely inedible. The batter was charred brown and so heavily salted it made us gag. The roasted Brussel spouts looked more like ash from the fire pit. The calamari tapas and the side Ceasar salad were the only good tasting and well cooked items we sampled throughout the evening. When the bill came it was the last bit of deflation, realizing we were dropping almost $200 on 2 tapas, 3 entrees, and 4 drinks on extremely lackluster food. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume it was an off night and they were understaffed. Unfortunately we won't be returning. Very disappointed.More

Food was good, standard menu with no real surprises. Fish special was sold out by the time of our 7:30 reservation. The real draw is the quaint ambiance and wonderful servers.

We have lived in Southport a bit over a year and have tried several restaurants. Last night, we had the pleasure of dining at Ports of Call. A couple of people had recommended it and as we had company visiting, we thought we would try...it and we are very happy we did. We had reservations for 6:30 are were pleasantly greeted and seated at a very nice table (not Table #9 :-) ). Our server, Bryan came over, introduced himself, explained the dinner specials and wine specials to us. We started with a bottle of Rose (very nice!) and were never rushed to order (a wonderful thing). As the dining room filled up, we knew that they probably were a bit understaffed and when one of the other 'team' members came overt to get our appetizer orders, our suspicion was confirmed. However, the way each one pitched in to help, you forgot that Bryan was working most of the room. Our appetizers were wonderful. My wile had the fried green tomatoes (a family favorite) that was delicious and beautifully presented. The flavors were very interesting and creative; it brought the dish to a whole new level for us. I had the Thai Hot and Sour Soup which was amazing. The flavors were very rich and deep. We were a bit disappointed with the artichoke appetizer. We ordered soon after that. Everyone's dish was spectacular! Our guests (from VA Beach) have many restaurant options yet loved the restaurant, its charm and ambience. The Ahi tuna was perfectly cooked and nicely plated. One couple had the blackened scallops and salmon special. Both remarked how delicious their dinners were and everything perfectly cooked. My wife had the shrimp and lobster over linguine and is still talking about her meal. They also have a great wine list and knowledgeable staff to help make the correct pairing. This gem in the heart of Southport is now our go to restaurant …I'm only sorry it took us so long to get there. Well done; great to see a team pull together and make everyone's dining experience special!More

This is a comfortable upper scale restaurant with amazing entrees. They’ve just come out with a new summer menu featuring entrees from around the the country and the world. Had a wonderful time. The meal was wonderful and the service was top notch. Had the...Boothbay Maine entree, shrimp, lobster in linguine with a creamy pesto sauce. Great. Also recommend the Paris beef short ribs. I’ll make sure to have that next time.More

Ports of Call has excellent quality food and service. Every meal I’ve had there has been fabulous. The tuxedo dessert is chocolate perfection. Prices are a little higher than some other restaurants close by, but the food is worth it.

My family of 6 had a blast. We loved the food and drinks. We  apprecired the variety and the complexity of the flavors. My daughter has a severe uncommon anaphylaxic allergy and most others of us have dietary restrictions.  They did a amazing job balancing all...of our different requirements.  We all keep talking about how great it was.  Thank You Ports of Call!More

What a mess. Called @950and made a res. for 1115. Arrived to be told there was no res. When I showed the host the call documented on my phone he had no explanation. Waited at the bar for the bar area window table we had...previously requested and later sat there. Not enough staff to handle the situation. Food was meh, asked for a wine list during the meal but waiter never made it back. While dining a group of six “waiting” people crowded into the corner between us and the bar. No masks, no distancing, being loud and laughing and blocking the bartenders access to the bar. After it became clear they didn’t care I approached, excusing myself, and asked that they either put on masks or properly distance from our table. Some moved off grudgingly and one female, looking at us , stated you “can’t live in fear” to which I responded it wasn’t about fear, but respect. Her retort was “we should stay home”. I of course told her she should but it was clear it all wasn’t going anywhere. They were soon seated. The restaurant was trying to manage to the safety protocols but they simply weren’t in control of the situation. A female customer sitting at the bar who observed the exchange apologized about what happened. One part ignorance, one part overwhelmed restaurant, one part a rainy day Sunday brunch, was a bad concoction. Maybe post Covid?More

Here at Ports of Call, we take COVID precautions very seriously. On this day, we were understaffed which unfortunately happens on occasion. We do the best we can to keep everyone safe.

High expectations were dashed on our first visit. My wife’s Halibut over risotto was excellent, the duck breast special was similar to rubber hockey puck, the rice pilaf was underdone. The highlight of the evening was the peach cocktail with Makers and the sunrise martini.
