This was our first stop in town and we fell in love with the restaurant and the city right there!! We opened the door to go in & thought we may have been underdressed from traveling (jeans, golf shirts & sandals). The host at the door welcomed us so warmly that we felt instantly at ease. Specialty Cocktails are $5... More

Had lunch. Very good food and excellent servers at table explained all menu offerings of interest and made recommendations when asked. We all had a delightful meal and time!

We had two meals here in two days. That we came back the second day should speak for itself. Three of us over two meals had shrimp & grits, fish & grits, uptown oysters, fried chicken livers, sweet potato biscuits, coffee, tomato & cucumber salad, spicy collard greens, the fried green tomato & okra basket, and sweet potato fries. All... More

While in town for a college visit at Wake Forest, found this place. Holy cow! Started with the biscuits which are baked to perfection, light and tasty. The molasses that came with it was excellent on top. Then, the meal of the year.... Meatloaf! Better than my mom's and grandmothers'! It is so darn flavorful and comes with horseradish mashed... We went for a weekday lunch after touring Wake Forest University. The menu is a creative twist on southern food. I loved the catfish & fried okra. My wife had the fried green tomato blt. Sweet potato biscuits were light and fluffy. Will be back again (hopefully as a WFU dad)!

The atmosphere was cozy. I would go back and try other items on the menu. I can't recall what I ordered but it didn't wow me like I had hoped. This place comes with very high reviews so I would definitely go back to give it another go.

The atmosphere was relaxing, a very nice dose of old-time Trade St. Arts District charm with a twist of black history. We were warmly greeted by the owner and the table service was very good, 4 1/2 stars. The time to prepare was only slightly longer than expected by my 8 yr. old Son (15 - 20 min.) but he... More

Was a Saturday afternoon and perfect strolling weather thru downtown ( the first 15 mins :-! ) My lady recommended the location I'm reviewing and I heard a lot of great things in the beginning but then heard mixed reviews the later years so decided to see what the hype was. We got there around 4:45pm and realized they didn't... More
