Tables piled up with dishes. When they were finally cleaned so we could sit, they used the same cloth to clean the seats that they used for the tables. No hand sanitizer in the holder on the wall. Employees wore masks as chin straps or...under the nose. They also kept complaining to customers how busy they were and they couldn't keep up.and running out of food ( this was only 1 p.m.). Was also a very long water for a couple bowls if soup which we hear after came from bottles. Paid $18.40 for two bowls of salty soup and two bottles of water. Pass.More

This is kind of a weird spot – one side is a café/bakery, the other side is a pub – 2 separate entrance doors. I didn’t realize they shared the same kitchen and menu until after we finished our meal in the pub. Neither side...is much to look at – the café is just a few tables and chairs and the bakery counter. We ate in the pub side, which is dominated by a bank of video gambling terminals, a pool table and a big bar. Not many tables here either, and clearly a local hangout. That said, the locals were friendly and welcoming, even the patrons said hello. Service was prompt and friendly as well. The menu is quite limited. Their home-made soups are the way to go, portions are huge and they are delicious. We tried the turkey soup with a western sandwich, and the pea soup with a grilled cheese. Both the soups were standouts – the sandwiches were good too. So if you’re looking for some hearty comfort food after hiking the Skerwink Trail, try a soup and sandwich here. After we ate, we went next door to their bakery to take away dessert – I was hoping for the carrot cake based on other TA reviews –but they were sold out. I got a huge slice of chocolate cake, which was good but you might want to try Mifflin’s Tea Room for baked goods instead, we peeked in and they looked scrumptious.More

Great service when 8 of us walked in. We had egg breakfasts, pancakes loaded with blueberries, huge helpings of shepherd’s pie and chicken casserole, and a chef salad filled with different vegetables. Everyone enjoyed a great meal.

We visited Bonavista in a day trip and after seeing some Puffins and go around in the city by car we stopped to have a quick meal at Walkham’s Gate Café and we really liked it. It’s a small Café next to a Pub, with...good options for desserts and a quick lunch or even take out. We had some Cod au Gratin and Fish Cakes that were delicious, and of course, we also couldn’t resist to their local desserts! The price is good and the service was really friendly. The ambience is simple and cozy at the same time. We totally recommend a stop, even for a dessert & coffee only!More

Excellent food, friendly waitresses, and good prices, what more can you ask for :) I highly recommend the fishcakes; some of the best to be had on the rock!

We did not go to Walkham's per sa...however we went to the Cafe (there are 2 entrances - Cafe on the right entrance). We ate here twice due to the insanely fantastic deep dish rhubarb pie at $3.95. Second time we had a lemon-meringue pie...and carrot cake..preceded by a shared shepards pie for the main. If you go to Bonivista...you can't say you went unless you tried something for dessert at the CAFE.More

This was our second, and third (or maybe third and fourth), visit to this little café. It is fairly basic, tables, chairs, cool pics on the walls and friendly staff. The service is a little slow but everything we ate was home made and delicious....The black bottom cakes (we know them as farm-cakes) were delicious and all the desserts looked like stuff Grandma makes.More

We dropped in to get a quick bite. Staff were friendly and the lasagne was delicious. The desserts are truly wonderful. Great place for hearty food at very reasonable prices. Highly recommend.
