From the cold drinks to the meat cooked underground to the parting tequila shots, this was a fantastic meal and a fun stop on our way to Uxmal from Campeche.

We stopped here after exploring Uxmal and it was fantastic. It is slightly farther North on 261 than many of the other restaurant options in the area. As others have said, they cook their meats (chicken, beef, and pork) in the ground in traditional Mayan fashion. They allowed us to watch them uncover and remove it from the ground before... More

We visited here as part of our group tour with Kuoni and had a great meal, though it’s something that I assume has to be pre-ordered. We were shown to an area at the back of the restaurant where there was a hole in the ground with a cover over it. The staff removed the cover, lifted out a box... More

Our tour group stopped here for lunch and it was fabulous. The food was cooked in underground ovens and were ready when we arrived. They dug up the pots and served the succulent pork and chicken after we had a delicious vegetable soup as an appetizer. After we ate, they brought out the tequila and did a routine with the... More

You will miss it if not looking, but definitely worth trying. Open for lunch, with well prepare local food. Great tortillas, and if you're lucky you can see them being made. If you are a group of decent size and let them know beforehand, they will cook chicken pibil, and will pull it out of the underground pit while you... More

Although we were staying next to Uxmal in the Lodge, we tired of their expensive and average food. A local guide recommended Halach Huinic for lunch and what a treat it was. When we arrived, they were preparing chicken and pork pibil in back of the restaurant in the traditional method: in banana leaves and buried in the ground. A... More
